No time restrictions that I know of. Hostess are pretty much straight up and down. If you can look after yourself then they are definitely the guys to look at. The reason they are so cheap is that they don't offer phone service etc. That said they are pretty good at email support.

G'Day Tom!

Hehehe with the exchange rate Hostess would be cheaper than most of the US offerings. Thanks!

BTW the main reason I am moving from Geocities is the bandwidth. They say you get 3 Gig per month but that is allocated as an hourly rate of 4.2 MB. Do you know if hostess does a similar thing or is this something restricted to the free geocities accounts?

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Very helpful :)

Ben,

I know you're in Australia, so I'm going to recommend these guys.

I use them for a number of my installs and have NEVER had a problem. Hosting starts from AU$49.95 a year (less than $4.20 a month!), but you get 5GB bandwidth and 100MB of space.

I always go for the business package though ($69.95 a year - Unlimited traffic, 250MB space and includes a MySQL database).

Optionally you can go for the eCommerce package, which I bundled with a number of my sites ($99.95 a year - unlimited Traffic, 500MB space & an SSL certificate!)

Keep in mind you need to fork out $25 every two years to own your own .com.au domain (and you need an ABN and to have a registered business name matching your domain), or you can pay $19.95 a year for a .com domain, on which there are no restrictions.

Cheers,
Tom

G'Day!

I am thinking of setting up my own domain (instead of currently using yahoo which has started to become a problem on release day). I was thinking of using these guys:
http://www.hostdepartment.com/

They are offering (for 12 month signup) free domain, unlimited storage and bandwidth for $US3.95/month. Anyone had any good or bad experiences with them?
