I wasn't ever so sceptical about the idea of offering the framework source
as I was the on the idea of also releasing the IDE code - which was not your
suggestion I know. I think you inferred too much from the original post I
made on this issue.

I can see the case for limited access to the framework, even if not fully
convinced yet. Maybe if RS were to hold back the top levels of the framework
( such as object, control, rectcontrol etc ) for example such as only
offering them as static libraries with headers, then maybe RS might be more
amenable to the idea. Just a thought.

Not only myself but many others have suggested that giving us the ability to
add our own enhancements to the IDE could give us more functionality ( maybe
even generate some 3rd small pty market ) while letting RS work on other
more important aspects. Undeniably this would be mean RS having to spend
some time on it, exposing the internal syntax tree etc.. But once done,
would result in an IDE that would be much richer in power at little cost to
RS.

Your idea on eclipse is interesting but as I have only read about but never
seen or used eclipse I don't know how much work this would involve for RS.
How does the graphical GUI building side of eclipse work ? How much of a
rewrite would be required to allow RB widgets to be dragged and dropped on
to eclipse window form editors ?

Regardless of outstanding bugs and limited resources at RS I choose to be
optimistic about RB and their future. IMO all it would take would be for RS
to add a couple of more platforms to their list - Windows Mobile and/or
Symbian series 60 and then RS might really take off.
