I was not endorsing forums as an alternative, I still vastly prefer the NUG, all I was saying was that once/if they do merge them AND find a way of keeping this in sync with a mailing list - that they then also look into reducing the number of forum topics. As someone else here has said- forums work for asking questions - not answering them.
Maybe the answer is to allow for many forum categories- but to have a mechanism where ALL categories get reposted to the ONE mailing list - with the category heading inserted in the email subject.
