Because people like you aren't doing the beta testing. On the other hand,
I'm quite happy with 2007r2, because the features I'm using are working
fine.

I try to rotate my beta testers, to get a slightly different group of people
every now and then. Beta testers tend to test the same parts of the software
all the time, and never try other parts. They especially like to focus on
new features, and never go back over old ones that worked fine a week ago.
That means some things in the code get tested thoroughly, while others are
overlooked entirely.

I've found really obvious bugs 4 years after the initial release, and when I
asked users why they never reported them, they often said they thought
*they* were doing something wrong, or it wasn't a feature that was important
to them, or they simply never had occasion to use it. The beta testers are
the same way.
