I just did a little informal messing around, doing some totally empty  
loops and there appears to be a slight penalty for declaring the  
integer in the loop like that. I was just counting from 1 to 100000  
and averaging the microseconds from 100 loops and without exception  
the "for i as integer =" was slightly slower than pre-declaring the  
integer. So you might try experimenting with that. I'm always  
suspicious of the "new" way of doing things so that struck me right  
away as a potential issue. The average was about 100 microseconds  
difference, some being as much as 300, so it's not going to explain  
everything, but helps with optimization a little bit.
