Mike, what you need is the motherboard BIOS identifier string. This string
shows up at POST on the bottom left of the screen usually.

I know there are utilities for Windows that retrieve that string, but I know
of none for Linux.

Maybe a google search on 'linux [main|mother]board identifier string'?

Otherwise I'm not sure. You can usually pump the identifier string into
google and there will usually be some hits.
