My 1st suggestion would be to read the book that the cd's came with, a least
the 1st few chapters. It should explain how to partion for Linux usind fdisk
(BTW, that is not DOS fdisk it is a version for Linux) also on the cd's
should be a copy of the RedHat Install Guide that you could acess from dos
to read and get more info on how to use disk druid. Another suggestion is
to get the latest version of RedHat from:
http://www.cheapbytes.com/ the gpl'd version is usually only a couple of
bucks, it is supposed to be able to automatically partion any free space on
your drive for linux. Linux itself is free as are alot of the programs (free
meaning the the source code is there so you can change or modify it anyway
to suit your needs. You can also download a complete distrubition of RedHat
from there ftp site or an iso image to burn to a cd it's free, but don't
bother if you are going to download to the machine you are trying to install
on it is about 640 MB. When you pay for a Linux Distro you are paying for it
coming nice and neatly bundled together with some type of install program to
help you and also if you buy official versions also you get some support. My
suggestion is to start slow, do some reading and try several times, 2 years
ago I was in the same spot you are now, but now I only have to endure
Windows at work, but not in the comfort of my own home its Linux all the
way.
Good Luck
Brad
