Well, the error messages which you are seeing are independant of the problem
in which the audio CD won't play.
You *should* get errors when you try to mount an audio CD because there is no
filesystem on the disc. If there is an audio disc in the drive at bootup, or
if you have software running which tried to mount the drive whenever media is
inserted, you will see these errors.
I don't have any such software running, so I rarely get the error messages in
/var/log/messages. However, I still cannot get my drive to recognize an audio
CD.

I've posted this problem twice to the list. The only replies I had either
time were from people who had the problem but were trying to mount the disk or
from people who had hardware failure...
