i did look at kernel.org and i find it funny they didn't
have 2.2.15 to download. Anyone know where to get it?

Well, I just built 2.2.15 and installed it on the system which was having
the
problems, and the CD player now works just fine with audio CD's.  Thanks for
the suggestion to whomever recommended it!!!

I would guess this will also fix the problem for the rest of you...
