I just installed a Linksys 8 port router/switch for my DSL.
Also compatible with PPPOE and VERY easy to setup.
Linksys has a 1 port, 4 port and 8 port router setup that does the same
thing depending on your needs. I have not tried using it with my linux yet
but it is as simple as setting up a normal network connection. Supports both
DHCP and static IP for the local network.
Has firewall support as well as blocks pings and will allow a variety of
accesses to the net. You can even put a web server on it if you like. VERY
nice.
Price run around $200-230 for 8 ports. ABout $80 less for only 4 ports and
about $130 less for the one port (Must use a hub unless you are only hooked
to one computer which would be silly unless you are only interested in the
firewall stuff.)

Yeah. OTOH, the Netgear, in combination with an external
DSL modem would be a wonderful combo. ;-)
