The number of games they won has become beside the point. They were legitimately supposed to win 97 or even 100, so 90 and third place is not really much of a consolation prize.
It's the way they lost it that just burns me. For the record I have *never* blamed Bill Buckner, Calvin Schiraldi, or Rich Gedman for 1986. That's just the way it goes. I never doubted that they were crushed. Remember Wade Boggs crying on the bench? What kills me about this disaster is that I spent a month expecting the law of large numbers to come around and bring us into the playoffs. But, it turns out, they were losing because some of them didn't give a shit, and I just can't abide that.
