Memories -

My first VHF receiver was a 5-tube ACDC that I modded ...
I yanked the mixer tube and replaced it with a pair of 6CW4s...
a crystal oscillator / multiplier and a mixer.  I made it work
on K6MYKs AM repeater here in L.A....
