There is a great software package called Anapod Explorer from Red Chair Software: http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/.
It installs on Windows and give full drag/drop access to the Ipod with a Windows Explorer -like interface. Best off: It has built in transcoding from Flac to MP3. I set up a windows share to my slimserver (9k flac files) and then simply drag and drop what I want onto the ipod.
