The problem with FLAC is that my iPod doesn't play it, and I never expected to fit 1600+ CD's *IN ANY FORMAT* on my 60 GB iPod Photo. I will have to resort to sync'ing select albums and playlists.
It's just that I tend to use iTunes to manage and playback my music while at the computer, but I use SlimServer/Squeezebox to playback music upstairs in the livingroom while entertaining and doing other stuff around the house. I planned to rip my entire CD collection through iTunes and just have SlimServer sync with the XML library file that iTunes works off of. If I rip in Apple Lossless, SlimServer decodes on the fly into streaming PCM without any loss of audio quality. I'm not what you would consider an audiophile in the extreme sense, but I am anal enough about sound quality that I do not want a lossy rip. I just need a lossless format that works with my iPod. By the way, I understand that EAC is the universally accepted method for archiving your music library, but... isn't it a bit cumbersome? If I understand correctly, I have to rip it in wav first and then encode into my format of choice, right? Also, I didn't think wav files can take ID3 tags? -- EnochLight ------------------------------------------------------------------------ EnochLight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3392 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20066 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
