Hi Mark.

Point taken, and don't worry I'm very happy to be educated by anyone
who knows something I don't ;-)

I appreciate that drives may be made more cheaply today than they once
were but it seems odd considering that the advance in recording media
(dual layer DVD etc.) and recording speeds must require an improved
level of accuracy from the drive.

I appreciate that this may be error prevention rather than error
correction but the speed of ripping with EAC would probably drive me
mad, not to mention cause a divorce - my wife thinks I'm having a
torrid affair with my PC as it is....

Given that very few of my CDs are in anything less than pristine
condition (i.e. only those other people have got their mitts on) I'm
not too concerned at not using EAC for the extraction process. Having
said that it would be nice to EAC the knackered discs just to get the
best out of them but of course I've gone down the Apple Lossless road
and as we all know only Apple know the encoding formular.

I've just had a thought, is there any lossless format which iTunes can
convert to Apple Lossless? I could use EAC to produce the initial rip
and then import/convert it using iTunes if there is....
