I used foobar2000 on about 17,000 tracks after carefully considering what it does vs the alternative MP3gain.exe. I didn't like that MP3gain would modify the gain values on each frame in the file (hence the multiple of 1.5dB). foobar2000 only writes the 4 new tags that decribe track/album gain/peak values. The playing volume through my Transporter is nicely even across my entire collection.
However, the output volume from the Transporter is low compared to other components connected to my Classe preamp. I have a volume trim (or offset, I think they call it) that I can use to boost or attenuate a device so that each device is approximately the same volume. Unfortunately, my Transporter is not the quietest device now that I ReplayGain'ed my entire collection. The VU meters on the Trnasporter seldom get over -3dB and are mostly between -7dB and -5dB. So, I'm thinking I would like to normalize to 91dB rather than 89dB. I know MP3Gain will do that, but again, I just want to add 2 or add 3 to the track gain tag. Not a tag on each frame like MP3Gain does. Are there any programs that will let me add an offset to the track gain tag that foobar2000 writes? Thanks for any advice!
