There's a further advantage to FLAC, seen in its first word: *Free* Lossless Audio Codec. For me it had the advantage of being free in both the sense that you don't pay to get it, and that it's free from proprietary concerns. I expect that, as years go by, plenty of playing systems will always support FLAC. I have no wish to re-rip my collection to another format because a commercial company has stopped supporting its own proprietary software......
