... and how would you know whether your wav is corrupted?

Perhaps there is already imperceptible corruption of some bits ... you
don't sound like the sort of guy who would say "I can't hear the
corruption, so why should I worry?"

Not immune, no, but as soon as a bit is corrupted, the checksum will
fail and you will be notified of the problem.
