1. It's perfect for entertaining maybe. But for me music can be much
more than entertainment. (I wouldn't call listening to Mahler's 5th
symphony entertainment. It's much more than that: you enjoy the
structure, laugh, cry -- an intellectual and emotional journey would be
a better way to describe it. When I listen carefully, I'm just exhausted
when the music stops.) Dynamics are an essential part of music,
including loudness differences between parts of an 'album'.

2. But to each his/her own of course. I can only agree with this. But
at the same time I can only say: I wish this was true. The loudness war
more and more destroys our music. They seem to give your kind what you
want (and I have nothing against that), but I sure wish they gave
people like me what we want. Maybe a message from a rock band says more
than my classical music example: listen to and read the lyrics of
Porcupine Tree's 'The sound of Muzak'.
