No advantage.  In your first post you said you didn't need compression,
so that's how you could do it while still using the FLAC file format
with its metadata tagging.  It's just not widely known.

Ok, 56% compression is fairly normal.  I see anywhere from 30% to 60%
compression.  It depends a lot on the audio being encoded.

Same 56%.  Normal.

Try ripping a couple of tracks with -8, the highest level of
compression and -5, the default level, then compare the resulting file
sizes.  You probably won't find a lot of difference.  That's the reason
I simply use the default level and never worry about it.

Yes.  It must be the nature of the music being compressed.  Some music
lends itself much more to the algorithms being used, and some much less.
