I think it would appear under both CSN and CSNY, but you should
experiment and see whether or not it works the way you like.  If
scanning your whole library takes too long for you to want to
experiment, set up a small test music library with maybe 50 or 100
albums _copied_ from your main library.  Then do anything you like to
the tagging within the test library and see what happens.

You could, but it has some down sides.  SbS doesn't separate an
artist's 'full' albums from those on which the artist is just a guest
or collaborator.  So under Paul Simon, all of the Simon & Garfunkel
albums would be mixed in.  If that's what you want then go for it.

That's probably the main reason to use ALBUMARTIST.  If you have an
album with guest artists, adding the ALBUMARTIST tag should assign the
album to that artist and make SbS mark it a non-compilation.
