The logic behind the suggestion is this:
playlists should be treated exactly the same as the file or database
browser. In both of those selecting the first track listed will play
the rest of the list, if you want to start somewhere else you can
easily do that.
If the behaviour is identical in all 3 cases it is easier for everyone to use.

If all the proposed changes happen and you keep your playlists in the
catalog it ends up being the same amount of presses for starting the
playlist as currently (main menu > playlists > select the playlist you
want > OK) compared to svn which is (menu > playlists > view catalog >
select the playlist you want)

There is basically no change to the use cases which involve the
playlist insert context menu (insert next/shuffled/etc), and it would
allow users to add individual tracks from a .m3u into the current
playlist which is currently impossible.
