I've now tested 6 programmes capable of rendering JPEGs (as opposed to converting them to sprites on the fly). Of these, !Variations, !Photodesk, !ChangeFSI and !Draw can have a filer window smoothly dragged over the JPEG they are displaying, or the JPEG can be dragged offscreen and back on, and the image does not break up; the JPEGs displayed by !SwiftJPEG and !Thump, on the other hand, do break up when moved off and on screen or a window is dragged across. So the problem does not appear to be related to RPCEmu, but (presumably) to differences in the rendering procedure adopted by individual applications.
