I tried it. Color is good and size is OK, but: it's designed to absorb moisture and seems to clump and separate in weird ways over time. I also thought it was the world's best for hopper loads so I painted it with black latex paint only to watch ballast colored cracks open up with time. Now I stick with Woodland Scenics coarse HO.ballast.
