Over the years, I collect Allen Kellers "Great Model Railroad" disc's.

I have the entire collection and recently Allen came out with several new ones,
so I decided the other night that I would catch up on my collection.
I called the 800 number and was surprised to have Allen himself answer the
phone, I stated as much to Allen.
I then made my order and took care of business, then asked if he could spare a
moment or two with me and he answered yes.

I told Allen about our Yahoo S scale list and that I had suggested that Allen
do a project on Ed Loizeaux's S scale model railroad that has been a "Hot" item
in Model Railroad recently and that we have many other S scale model railroads
for him to consider.

Allen answered, that originally he tried that with N & O gauges and that those
disc's didn't do well, that HO seems to be what sells for his company.
This would suggest that Allen's company is not large, but that his is a family
type business.

Why do I an S Scaler purchase Allen Keller "Great Model railroad" disc's?
[formerly tapes]

Because I learn what the very good model railroads look like, how they model,
construction, and how they operate. I marvel at how realistic Allen's "Great
Model Railroad" production unit makes the model railroad they are reviewing
look. At the end of every tape, Allen sits with the modeler and discuss that
modelers techniques. From that session you get very good helpful answers and
suggestions which you in turn take advantage of for your model railroad.

I must admit, I was surprised by Allen's answer. [The man was very honest!]
This means that he bases his tapes on what sells, not on "Great Model
Railroads" of all scales that are readily available. But, conversely, were I in
Allen's shoes, would I do the same thing?

So, while I find Allen's picking of model railroads troubling, I'll continue to
collect his series of "Great Model Railroad" disc's as find them well done,
professional, and of value.

Your Thoughts?
"S"incerely,
Bill
