Or quit trying to build an HO layout in S. The most beautifully built
layout in the world can soon become boring if it doesn't feature
interesting and prototypical operation. The way most people try to
overcome this is to build larger and larger and more complex layouts.
A LONG time ago, I read that a well operated tinplate layout can trump
a well scenicked scale layout every time.
Frank Ellison's Delta Lines still comes up in model railroad
conversations, and, why, he didn't even have DCC, or even expensive
super detailed off-the-shelf models.
That's a topic that takes a long, long time to explain, but I saw and
worked with a lot of different prototypical track arrangements. What
was most interesting, though, was the way crews worked with what they
had to get the job done.
