I wouldn't consider an Atlas GP7 a scale loco, it has the twin motor toy
train 3 rail drive. The only locos atlas makes that are comparable to SHS locos
are their switchers.
The exact numbers of used product will vary over a period of time but the
ratio of product among the scales is a good guide line to the overall
availability. Just for comparison I did an Ebay search for NYC and New York
Central in the popular scales and came up with these numbers, the NYC search is
first and the New york Central search is second. The numbers for S scale were
71 and 60, For N scale they were 373 and 449, for HO scale they were 1157 and
1272, for O scale they were 1407 and 1440. Surprisingly there was more NYC and
New York Central hits in O scale than HO scale but the 71 to 1407 ratio between
S and O was about what I expected. I didn't look at all these hits to see how
useful they would be but a big part of layout planning is choosing a layout
design and theme that uses available equipment so they are what they are.
As far as number of NYC modelers, I know of one here in the west :>) Maybe
back east there's another or three? ....dave
