Do you miss chewing the erasers?

I started drafting for an auto parts company in 1940. special bolts, drop
forgings and other items. Then on to machinery for fibreglas batting.

Then wound up with maps for city planning. That led to architectural models
for FORTUNE ads, major companies, and others.

The CAD work is great for many but I get lost before I start.

My wife is an artist (in Who's Who) who can so some good work on a computer but
prefers drawing and painting by far. Her work is exceptional.

Art in advertising is almost gone. It is all stringy haired blond babes on TV.
Or sadistic acts on people? Noone sings , just screaming by those trying to
outdo the last one. When was the the last time you heard the National Anthem
sung without "warbling" followed by a scream?

I'll stick to pencils.
Art supply stores have been replaced by "Crapft" stores. Hobby shops are going
fast. Fabric stores are junk and rag shops.
Hardware stores are disappearing. Of course you have Lowe's who sell only
screws, no bolts. They do have 1/2 inch "screws" though This is due to the
jackass "marketing types" with a computer.

I'll stick to S Scale and BTS , KND Enterprises, and our superb Georgia car
builder.

  John,
Bob's not designing his track plan. He's trying to put it on his web site so
we can all see it. If you reread what Bob said, he's starting by drawing it
with pencil and paper. All the fiddling he's doing is to convert it to a
digital image that he can upload.

I started my professional life as a draftsman, and always drew my layouts
that way, but it sure saves one heck of a lot of space to get rid of the
drawing board and do the design on the computer, which I need anyway. From an
ecological standpoint, I'm proud to say that I've saved hundreds, maybe
thousands of erasers (cute little things) by switching to electronic drafting
:o)

Why would you need a program to design a trackplan?
Starting in 1936 everyone I ever knew drew them by hand. Often on graph
paper. You knew radius limits ,etc. Your room size, and how to draw a straight
line, or a curve with a French curve.
I guess i've been around too long

We will probably need a computer in a few years to go to the bathroom.
Sorry but the modeler needs today just grab me the wrong way.
