Quick comments --This discussion
reminds me a lot of Sage itself.  If i had told people to just build
GMP, MPFR, NTL, etc., etc., there would be no Sage, since it
is so hard to build all those things so nobody would have tried it
and got hooked back when Sage sucked :-)
