For serious statistics work, one can just use R (which is distributed with Sage, by the way). http://www.r-project.org/ Instead of Excel, I'd use Google Spreadsheets. (Currently they only work offline with Google Chrome browser, and you need a reasonable internet connection for one-time setup (installing the browser and enabling offile Google Drive)).
