There are spaces in the file that are not part of a text string, the line
below is from my servers.txt:

pscdalpcshare10 80 10 true ...

If you run your cursor through it you'll see that it looks like this:

pscdalpcshare10TABTABSpace80TABSpace10TABtrue

The 80 is the port check, and 10 the timeout (as far as I can figure). I
haven't tested using just one line and removing one space, but I can tell
you that saving the file as a TSV from Excel won't work. I printed out the
Excel version and the SA version and laid one on top of the other, shown a
bright light through them, and the only difference that I could see were the
spaces.

On the other point, Warning shouldn't be a problem. If someone is just
reconfiguring they probably aren't going to mind being warned. I doubt
anyone does massive reconfiguration of checks (unlike timeout intervals,
etc).

Anyway, these are my suggestions. You certainly aren't any pressure to
adopt them, but I figured that you'd value user feedback.

The file is only tab delimited. IF there are spaces in it, then it's for
example within the body text of the mails that should be send OR within the
subject of the mail. Not much to do about that.

How can we warn about the 2nd check? It could well be that you no longer
need the original check and just are re-configuring. Allowing several checks
within one entry is something that we don't want to do. Our idea is that
each check can have it's own alerts; and if you add several checks to one
entry this is no longer the case.

I have a couple of suggestions that I think would be simple to implement and
make SA into an even better product.

1. If you are attempting to add a second type of check to a single entry it
should warn you that you are about to remove the first check. Found that
out the hard way. Each type of check for a server (ex: URL, Drive Space,
etc) have to be a separate entry.

An obvious alternative to the warning would be allowing multiple types of
checks for each entry.

2. The servers.txt configuration file looks like it's Tab-delimited, but
that's not exactly true. I opened it up in Excel because I wanted to make a
specific change to all of my entries, and when I saved it back as a
tab-delimited file SA wouldn't work with it. I eventually realized that the
file has spaces in strategic places. I would *love* if the file were purely
tab (comma, or whatever) delimited so I could make massive changes with
Excel instead of opening each entry one-at-a-time in the GUI. Even better
would be a line across the top that told us exactly what the fields were so
there'd be no guessing. I believe others may have requested something
similar.
