As far as I know it is the MIDI hardware running it, but there may be an extra buffer or something driving those two extra pins. At least, I don't know of any way to control those two pins separately from the MIDI, and the networking bits of the Sam ROM use port 253 in such a way that you can connect a normal MIDI lead and communicate over it. imc
