RE: [313] MP3 to CD?
Sean, So to not confuse .cda is an indexing configuration file, note they always have a file weight of less then 1k = no audio content. Big companies do this to hide the wave files, makes copying commercial audio CDs not so easy with proper software. You won't need to worry about this, follow Kevin's directions to handle the conversion from MP3 to Wave and then jump into Adaptec easy CD 4.0+ or Nero as Dennis suggests to rip the CD. dK -Original Message- From: Dennis Donohue [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 24, 2001 4:10 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [313] MP3 to CD? .cda is the file-extension for a cd playable wave file. Hey Sean, As Kevin stated Music Match is a good converter program. Note some car steros and/or CD players have problems playing audio files burned to blue back discs. [313] My DEMF wish...
With only one more day till I hop a plane to Detroit, (can't believe a year has gone by so fast) I'm looking forward to enjoying the whole weekend reguardless of weather, politics, and advertising. Three days of good music and good people are all I'm concerned with. Yes, the festival politics have obviously been a roller coaster ride this year, but I hope everyone can just show up and enjoy the music. Last year was great because everyone really connected with the spirit of the music. I don't think that has diminished in any of us over the course of the year. Hope to meet many of you over the course of the weekend. -dave (curious to see how the shirts came out, spoke to Mike at Recordtime and he said the printer was cranking them out) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[Dave Clark <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>] > Holy crap, you've produced 33 cd's worth of music in three years?! > I've spent the last 6 months on one track! I know I have a tendency to rush through tracks, but if I'm working on music I can easily do two or three songs in a day... A lot of it depends on how comfortable you are with your gear... A lot of it also has to do with the fact that I will often make like 4 tracks that are all based around the same idea but one will be jungle, one will be twostep, one will be techno and one will just be really weird or something to that effect... So I guess unless I wanted to tout my self as all high-art and release concept CDs I wouldn't really release all of them. -- :: atomly :: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.atomly.com/ | 877.741.3571 - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] LTJ cancels on the DEMF?
Then maybe it's true he's not playing because he was only going to do so as a favour to Carl. I know that on his first tour of the states he struggled to get a work permit due to his criminal record (petty theft when he was a child I think). He ended up heading out to the states without a work permit hoping he'll be able to sort one out when there (or play and not get caught). I cannot remember how it was resolved in the end, but I guess he must have sorted something out. > Not being a LTJ fan, its' odd that I know that he's touring the states > right now and that his fans don't? > Which is hopefully not just a cash in printed version > of the website entries like all the other AMG books? Cash in? I suppose you're right -- companies like to make money, and the people who work for companies appreciate being paid for their effort... In that sense, the book is a total cash-in. But for all the people who aren't making any extra money from this book (namely, all of our writors and editors, most everyone associated with AMG), the only thing *we* really care about is getting a quality product out there that people will find helpful and make us proud to be doing what we're doing. There *is* quite a bit of information in the book that's not available on the website -- essays, label descriptions, book reviews, music maps, etc. Though all of the biographies and reviews appearing in the book *are* accessible on our website, I'm not sure we should be punished for it. Obviously, it all comes down to a question of value -- is it worth it to have all the information organized and presented in the most easily browseable medium ever devised. I sort of like succumbing to the random nature of a book, just paging around and letting my eye wander. I don't want to shame anyone into buying a copy -- if you've *ever* been to our website, you should be buying a copy of this book... ;> -- but I think it's comprehensive, well-done, and very fun to use. (I've dropped so much money in the past few years based on what I've found on our website and in our books.) As to the factual entries, we're typically overwhelmed by all the corrections necessary to keep a project like this error-free. I'll take care of the Steve Reid fiasco, though -- my favorite mistaken identity is Bill Monroe appearing on Sgt. Since I've deleted most of my responses I've *wanted* to write here, I'll just say this: As we say here in the office, "Every one is a critic" In the future, there is a "feedback" button to which you can send corrections you see on the site to-these are read by people and (as someone who works on them) most of the corrections are taken and put into place. Please, feel free to use this function on the site-as it is there for those that find it more productive to build than to tare down. Re: [313] Groovetech and the 2001 DEMF
It would be the biggest shame not broadcasting/archiving the DEMF this year ! If I sign anything concerning my speculated thoughts about this years DEMF festival it would be about this. (all that money and no broadcast ???) I listened to a lot of the DEMF 2000 archives at Groovetech until yesterday And will never forget the following moments : Last record of DEGO ! Derrick may in the mix at 13 minutes (wow anybody know that record with the sax!) Shake with the Nick Straker band - a little bit of Jazz !! Hannah (fine tunes all the way) Theo Parrish (I can take it no no no !) If checked the DEMF 2001 site and although they've been sponsered by some radio stations I haven't seen any scheduled broadcasts anywhere. Anyway they you wanne show the world what detroit 2001 is all about then they should broadcast or archive the hole damn thingy. For some reason I never quite feel like putting those CDs in the player and listening straight through, so I don't usually play them much. But when I do, I'm a sucker for the Eddie Fowlkes, Stacey Pullen (his best track IMO) and Kech & Bonds. The Drexciya's awfully nice too. I like all the tracks, with maybe only one or two exceptions. I'm just not in the mood for it as often as, say a techno album like Metaphor. Revisited B-12's Time Tourist the other day. Lovely stuff... Anyone care to update me on their recent activities? [313] was DEMF - Rain, now True People
On a tangent, what are other peoples' opinion of the 5 lp react set called "True People" released in 1996? I think that it was one of the early records i bought made by detroit artists. [silent phase (stacey pullen)-rewired mixes, red planet 6 - ghostdancer, purpose maker 3, planet e - elements of and expiriments w/sound, and an e-dancer release] those were some others. I appreciated it (true people) some, but i always kinda felt like some of those trax were ones that didn't make the cut on those artists' solo albums. Anyone else have any comment? I should give that set a listen to again. rorschach From: j3s <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [313] DEMF - Rain Date: Wed, 23 May 2001 23:53:44 -0400 (EDT) > It will be interesting to see if a few downpours help weed out the extra > "gawkers" that are anticipated. RE: [313] this weekend
Well, to clarify, I've recorded about 3-4 cds worth of music in 3 years. About 160 minutes of music imo is worthy of release. So I compiled ~1/2 of those songs onto 1 cd, which I indeed copied 32 times, which is what I'm giving copies away of. Sorry to confuse with the wording in my original post. -rorschach From: "Andrew Wilson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <313@hyperreal.org> Subject: RE: [313] this weekend Date: Thu, 24 May 2001 13:42:23 +0930 :::Holy crap, you've produced 33 cd's worth of music in three years?! :::I've spent the last 6 months on one track! i could be reading into this wrong and if so then i am more than impressed but i think he might mean he's made one cd and copied that 32 times??? andrew - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Of course you're right, J. The beauty of last year was the coming together of so many diverse people. I loved seeing more than the typical club kids smiling and grooving. Hell, I'm *way* past being a typical club kid myself. Maybe I'm caught up in the worrisome hype about the potential "mainstreaming" of the festival. Nevertheless, I don't consider "True People" to be scenesters. In my mind the term always meant those who ignore boundaries, and are true to themselves and the effect of the music. I'm sure we'll have gray-hairs in attendance (mine included) and four year olds, too. -- There4IM - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
