I'm used now to need to save and then find the document again and then send it from my email program. But every now and then it frustrates me that this should be basically possible from within OOO. There is no reason that windows XP and other programs see PMail as system mailer and OO does not. And it seems to me that this is always starting when I try to open a file of which the extension is associated to OOO (.xls, .ods) from within another programm (e.g. my email programm Pegasus Mail, or a ling in my mind mapping programme FreeMind). OO crashes on opening this file as described above and then will crash on any other file that I try to open directly (spreadsheet as well as text). This will happened until I opened writer directly, typed some text and saved. I then closed OOO and could then open the files that it did not open before. However this does not happen everytime when I open from within another program. I have tried to upgrade to OO 3.2 RC5, but the files do not seem to be available in the moment. I don't have a problem anymore. this is typical, since monday I had problems with all kind of EXCEL files, but I though that there might be some problem elsewhere (e.g. the export of the newest MSOffice version) and not in Oo as I did not have a problem before. Then yesterday I finally decide to file a bug, reduce one of the file to a minimum that's still crashing. And now today, I have just tried all of the files that gave me the problem before and they all work now. [graphics-issues] [Issue 103494] object styles
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=103494 Issue #|103494 Summary|object styles Component|Presentation Version|OOo 3.1 Platform|Unknown URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|graphicsneedsconfirm Reported by|brendel --- Additional comments from bren...@openoffice.org Mon Jul 13 07:58:30 + 2009 --- this is a continuation from issue 81742, of which was not at all a duplicate of 19340 (which is about text paragraph styles). the problem was and is still that you cannot assign to a normal textbox a presentation style (only an image style) and you that you cannot change e.g. a title text object that has been defined with slide formatting into a different style. The problem is the following : you can create a new slide and you can use an empty slide. On this slide you put a text object and you write some words. now you decide that this should be the page title and formatted the same way as all the predefined titles. So you hit F11 to open the style window (this will open with image styles), you choose "title" and you reformat (update) your object. And this gives a completely different formatting as all other titles. And when you change the title formatting (to change ALL of your titles), this title created from a text object will not change. With the text object, you can alctually in the style window choose presentation styles, choose the title style and hit "update", but this will have no effect at all. Finally it does not work either the other way round : you create a new slide that has already a title object on it, you write some text in it, you open the style window, this will show automatically the correct presentation style. Now you choose a different style, the update button is active, you hit it, and nothing happens. You are not able to change a presentationstyle. Actually I have not yet found some functionality that actually works in this "Styles and formatting" window (F11) Cheers Oliver - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This can be over a minute where I'm wondering if OO will open the file or not. And this is not even with large files (e.g. this morning with a 35kb .doc file ). At least the hourglass should be shown at once, and then as rapidly as possible at least the window frame with a progress bar. I know that my 1.2GHz Pentium M (1.1 Gb RAM)is not he fastest processor anymore.. but having to wait for over one minute for a reaction of the programm to see that anything is happening is very very long Cheers Oliver - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is a minor problem for small presnetation, but with presentation >100 slides this becomes very annoying, especially as in the slide sorter you cannot drag a slide outside the window. So to get a slide from the last position to the first, you need to drag on top of the screen, scroll the window to further up, drag again etc. you do this for 10 pasted slides and you are ready to hit the screen Oliver - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=89667 Issue #|89667 Summary|Bibus fields in .dco not imported Component|Word processor Version|OOo 2.4.0 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|open-import Assigned to|mru Reported by|brendel --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue May 20 06:33:50 + 2008 --- This bug is similar to 61075 but was not resolved when 61075 was resolved in 002.4 : Bibus is a free, open bibliographic database program (http://sourceforge.net/projects/bibus-biblio/) that can interact both with MS Word and OO. The interaction with both programmes works slightly differently. The problem is that when references and bibliographies are inserted into a .doc document using Word and Bibus and then this .doc file is opened using OO2.4, the fields have disappeared, they are not even imported as simple text. This is a regression as at least the simple text-importation has worked in older versions of OO (see 61075 for this). I have attached a .doc file that has been created with Word 2003 and Bibus. When opened using OO2.4, one can see that neither the inserted citations nor the bibliography is shown (i have also tried this with word 2000 with the same result). The result (not showing the fields even as text) is the same if OO is run on a computer where MSWord is installed or if OO runs on a computer where MSWord has never been installed. I mention this as somebody else had commented for bug 61075 that this was the case. Thanks in advance for having a look at this. Bibus is a really good bibliographic software and more and more widely used, but one of the few handicaps it has is that one cannot switch between Word and OO without loosing the bibliographic information. It would be a good sign if one of the biggest open software projects existing makes an effort to help other, smaller open software projects that have less resources. If I will have to edit manually all of these cells, and then assure that this will also still work in EXCEL before I send the filled in sheets back, It will be not very practical to use OO calc. The up and down button behavior depend on which other button was activated last. Every time you click on a object-category button (page, OLE, reminder etc), to change the behavior of the up and down arrows, the window will close. Which means that you need regularly to open the window twice to perform one action (eg next reminder), once for changing the behavior of the arrow buttons and once to use them. It would perhaps be more comfortable if the window would only close on clicking on the arrow buttons (or the closing X button) and not with all of the buttons shown. The axis labels of the graphics in this file are mangled to an extend that makes them unreadable. I have enquired from the writer of this document that the pictures were pasted into Word 2000 from a statistical package using copy paste as metafile. I have attached a word document only containing this picture. It might be that issues 20024 and 28604 are related but as they relate to rather old OO versions I submit this as a new issue - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 22147] selfe-executing presentati ons
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=22147 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Dec 3 08:21:36 + 2007 --- If this Issue is closed, Impress becomes completely useless : - export to Powerpoint 2000 (the version still mainly used in conference centers) is completely broken : no animations are exported (see Issue 82176) ---> Impress cannot be used to prepare working presentations for Powerpoint - all animations specific to Impress cannot be used for Powerpoint 2003 exports - most conference centers will not allow the installation of software on their computers - in flash export animations don't work (without animation I can go back to overhead slides and not have any compatibility issues ...) so what can you use Impress for : presentations at home on computers where you can decide which software to install ?? I really like to work with Impress, its set of features and the way you can work with it are largely superior to Powerpoint, however without seflexecuting presentations all the effort that went into this great piece of software is lost If the OpenOffice community (or Sun ) wants that Impress becomes in any way a concurrent to Powerpoint, then self-executing presentations are the only way to get people to see what you can do with Impress... AS for myself, as long as this Issue remains closed, I will go back to Powerpoint, as I have lost so much time in adjusting Impress produced presentations to Conference computers with only Powerpoint installed, and so many embarrassing moments when animations did not work properly (that's really bad presse: "what happend there" "Oh I used OpenOffice Impress " ) Sorry Oliver - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 61075] Fields from Endnote skippe d during Word import in OOo 2
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=61075 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Oct 25 07:26:42 + 2007 --- I would like to add that this bug also affects BIBUS, one of the very few bibliographic programmes that work properly with OpenOffice. The programmer has made a big effort so that his program will work with both , Word and OpenOffice. And now the use of this very usefull and free program is severely handicapped by this bug in OpenOffice. I have a number of students using Bibus for their bibliographies, and using Word (on institute computers) and OpenOfice (on personal computers) and basically related to this bug, they cannot import the word files with bibliographic fields into OO. I'm trying to use mainly OpenOffice and promote it within the scientific community, but not being able to see neither EndNote nor Bibus field is a severe handicap. Even I, a longterm user and defender of OpenOffice in a still rather MSWord.using environment will have to switch back to Word now. There is nothing I can do, I'll have to abandon OpenOffice because I cannot see the bibliographic fields. What bothers me especially with this bug is that a programmer of a very usefull free programm, hasmade the effort to make it work with OpenOffice, and OpenOffice leaves a bug, that is a regression (as this has worked before) seemingly without comment and concern. When programmers of free programmes do not stick together, where do we go ? Oliver - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 81742] Changing presentation styl es
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=81742 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Oct 12 12:17:03 + 2007 --- Greying out the bucket depending on styles is not the problem, it is working : when I click on presentation styles and nothing is selected (or a graphics style is selected) then the bucket is greyed out, when I select a presentation style (such as a title) then the bucket becomes active. So no problem here, this is working. What is not working is the use of the bucket with a presentation style : when you have selected a presentation object (such as a title), then the styles and formatting window will highlight the style (here "Title") and the bucket becomes active. Theoretically you should now be able to click on the bucket and select a different presentation style, then move the mouse over your selected presentation object (mouse pointer should have changed to the bucket symbol, this is not happening), click on the object and thereby change its presentation style. This is not working. It is working (more or less) with graphics styles, but NOT with presentation styles. There is no way in the moment to change the style of a presentation object from one defined style (such as "Title") to a different one (such as "subtitle" or "Outline 1") etc ... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'm not complaining about it not being fixed, this is a problem of priorities, but there also has not been any discussion on this being an issue to repair (has worked before), how to perhaps fix this, etc. and this is not only a problem with EndNote, also Bibus fields seem to disappear (when created under OO, exported to Word, reimported). So I guess this might be a problem with all Reference software using fields. Thus this is not only concerning a few EndNote users, but anybody who wants to write a text that includes literature references. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. When the ppt file is reopened with OO Impress, all animations are OK, when it is opened with Powerpoint, they disappear. Even checking the different objects separately, they have no animation. This does not work with the presentation style : When you choose a presentation style, then click on the "bucket" button and then move the mouse back on the slide, the mousepointer does NOT change to the "bucket" and clicking on a presentation object (Title, Outline etc) does not change anything. I have tried every type of sequence of clicks and double clicks I can think of and was not able to change the presentation style of a presentation object (e.g. Title into subtitle, Outline 1 into Outline 2 etc) Do I miss something or is this broken ? I haven't found any other issue on this, so I'm a bit astonished and rather doubt my ability to do the right thing. In brief : As far as I can see (using help and trial and error) there is no way to convert a graphics style into an presentation style. Why would I want to do that ? It seems to me that presentation objects can only be created by selection a "Layout" and then using them. However when I want to begin with an empty slide and then add some text objects, there seems to be no way (at least not one I easily found or was described in the help) to say later on "This text box is a Title" or "this text box is an Outline", using presentation styles. This concerns mainly the text box. What's the difference between a text box created using "Layouts" and containing an outline, and a text box inserted using the "text" button, containing an outline, to require two different types of styles. If I then change the style of the presentation style outline, the other one will not be changed. This is very confusing for the user, especially for titles and outlines Thanks to have listened (read :-) Oliver - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Such a list can be created and saved under ppt format and does open correctly in Powerpoint. However when editing such a list, actions such as changing the police of a word, or the character format such as bold or italics and the saving again under ppt, when reopening the graphics bullets will have disappeared and are replaced with normal bullets. I have added a file that show the end-result. Actually the problem is the reopening, as the saved ppt file opened under Powerpoint does show correctly the graphics bullets. On the otherhand I think this is a situation OO should be able to cope with : it is quite usual that somebody copies a graph from one xls file to another without copying the data. Actually the data are not the problem at all as datawise the graph Chart produces is entirely correct. This is mostly a formating problem (wrong filling, wrong legend position, wrong axis numbers), withthe exception of the column headings, which would (could ?) be written in the original data. It is unacceptable to be able to calculate a regression (even logarithmic etc) and not even show the equation that goes with it. As the equation has been calculated to estimate the fit, the data is availabe, so it's just a case of adding a button "Show regression equation" and then add a text field with the equation. This is probably a lot less difficult than redesigning the whole thing and adding bells and whistles of exotic options. When I talk to colleagues about using OO, they just laugh and say " have you had a look at the graphics capabilities. We'll have a look in another 10 years" - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I cannot check or prove this, but I have just checked some older manuscripts from autumn 2005 and January/February 2006 and these documents also contain EndNote fields and I have no recollection about having had any problems with this. So either this is a problem in the newer OO versions or EndNote has changed their field format and this caused the problem. The same is true for subscript. And this seems to be an export problem as a) if the exported RTF file is opened with another programm (e.g. WordPad) the problem is already visible and b) if a RTF file including some superscript characters is created with a different programm and then opened with OO, the superscripts are correct. This problem can be rather annoying if you have long texts with a lot of sub and superscripts, as for example in scientific writing. Correcting all the super and subscripts in files that have been exported to RTF can take a long long time. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If one is working on a document that had many changes done, it is very difficult with the way this is handled in OO to find one specific change and accept it without having to work through all the other changes. In MSWord, when right clicking on a changed text (modified by another author and now in colour and underlined), then there are four additional menupoints : * accept change : this accepts the change under the right-click position * refuse change : this refuses the change * record changes : switches recording of changes on or off * accept or reject changes ... : opens the window for changes For really missing in OO are the first two points, which permit to rapidly accept and reject certain changes, even in the middle of a 100 pages document which has been worked over intensively. Working on documents is often not linearly. Another resolution to this problem could also be that the window that is opened by the menu point "Edit/changes/Acceptor Reject" should show/highlight the change on which the cursor is positionned. One needs to double click on the note and open the edit field to see the author. This can pose a problem when several different authors have worked on a document : the changes are nicely coded by colour, so one can see rapidly who has changed what, however the notes have to be opened one by one. It would therefore be nice if either the notes have the same colour as the recorded changes for this author (an option that automatically switches from the yellow rectangles to coloured ones when changes have been recorded for more than one author), or that the author is shown in the yellow rectangle or that at least the hover-over windows shows the author. On the other hand, at least when using Internet Browsers to do the viewing, there is no complete full screen mode. I have tested Mozilla and IE and both still show a naviagion bar in the full screen mode. For official conferences this is rather disturbing. Would it be possible to have OO create afile that includes the presentation as well as a shockwave player? The problem is that OOo has some very nice options that are not available in Powerpoint (at least the versions I know of). If you would like to use these options, you need to use OO, especially as export to swf or pdf are even more limiting as the export to ppt. I'm working regularly in three different languages, thus I have to have at least these installed. Now, OOo comes out of the box with already several dictionaries installed, such as English, Italian, Swahili (Kenya), Swahili (Tanzania), Thai. I would like to de-install or delete some of these languages to not overload my system, however I haven't found a simple way to do this. I have read all of the help concerning languages and dictionaries, to no avail. The only way I can see, is to manually find the files in shared/dict/ooo and deleting them. And probably also updating the file dictionary.lst ?? Will OO crash if I only delete the dictionaries and do not change dictionary.lst ? So here I go again : I can only stress, as this has already been done in another post, that for the scientific community this problem is of major importance : when I suggest to a colleague using OOo, one of the first questions will be : are the equations compatible ? It is also not an option to install the starsymbol font , as the whole point in saving as word document is, that I can send this document to a person who does not have installed OO, and does not know anything about StarOffice. Actually the whole effort that has been made by OO programmers to make writing equations in OO compatible with (or exportable to ) Microsoft equation is rendered useless if the greek letter problem is not resolved. I also find it still difficult to conceive how on the one hand greek letters in the equations are dependent on one not available font and ont he other hand inserting greek letters into the text using Insert/SpecialCharacter is no problem at all and exports correctly to Word. Could not be one option, that when exporting to .doc format, that the special characters from the starsymbol font are replaced by the correct codes for th symbol font, available on all systems that will open .doc with word ?
