[l10n-issues] [Issue 85538] [IT] Translation of "Disca rd" to discard changes to an open document
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=85538 --- Additional comments from mme...@openoffice.org Thu Aug 27 16:06:36 + 2009 --- My opinion is that "Discard" have to be translated in "Abbandona". If we use "Esci" we reproduce the reason this issue has been started. Esci is ambiguous and is not clear that the file will be not saved. But the question is "Do you want to save the changes?" so the answer should really be "Yes" "No" and "Cancel", translated in "Sì", "No", "Annulla". So I suggest to change the English answers as first sanity goal (this way user have to thing twice... reading the question and trying to "map" the given answers into a "yes/no/go back" actions). If not possible, I suggest "Abbandona" - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94881 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Oct 21 19:32:45 + 2008 --- Don't understand suggestion of trying a "more recent build like m9", since DEVm31 should be more recent, and I've tried also m32 and m33, just were not available in bug tracker combo box list. Stable 3.0 does not have this problem. I've removed Dev_ now because I need OOo to do some work, will try in the future with more recent versions. In any case, the problem seems that: a) if there is NOT already a soffice and soffice.bin process running, the above behaviour is also with 3.0 stable b) dev_m31-32 seems not to automatically start soffice and soffice.bin So is a) normal? Should be not. Can be b) confirmed? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. A) I find it not intuitive B) you like or not, people are used to M$toys behaviour, and Word behaves with "click to select" The only effect you will have with this behaviour is people upset and frustrated because Writer is broken and does not let you select objects. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=24070 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Sep 29 12:34:40 + 2007 --- to mba and all the other developers: Premise: developers are doing a great work! Thanks! COmplain: what I see as a big problem in OOo is the fact that "important" avoids consider daily annoiances and problems users can face. I.e. developers consider much more important a crash that occurs 1 time over 1.000.000 instead of an "annoiance" that a user faces every day many times a day. There are too much exaples of this, unfortunatly. Just I can remember / report the first ones comes to my mind: 1) this issue ;) 2) the decimal separator of the numeric keyboards in Calc (fixed after too much time) 3) calc that as default prints ALL the sheets and not the current one (solved just recentrly, but with problems in the preview page number) 4) writer that did not had (or still has?) the "create single print jobs",a real night mare if you have double side printer and have to print multiple copies 5) "Deleting newline deletes formatting on subsequent line (when in empty paragraph)" #50135, was targeted for 2.3 then moved to "2.x" 6) etc. ;) In short, watching OOo fix around 1.200 bugs / improvements, and have vary annoying (belive me, I use OOo in my office) that seems (of course, for someone that is familiar with the huge codebase) "easy to fix" be there since 1.1 version is something that makes you scream "unbelivable". Also being one that tries to move people from M$crap to OOo, and be ashamed for some of these "bugs" is really a bad experience. Remember that people that try to move from M$ don't give OOo many chances, once Calc prints 50 sheets instead of 1 Excel would have printed, they simply remove OOo. And having me forced to set tabs and margins in numeric way with a dialog instead of simply drag with the mouse is something that I fight daily and depresses mee too. So please, for OOo sake, put users priorities on top of developers one. Btw, also the "format paintbrush" does not work as expected, developers defending the behaviour for "tecnical reasons", while users are upset because works not as expected. Users don't mind about internal rapresentation or the way the code is build, they follow their mental model, and that's what developers should care most (see Alan Cooper's books about it, for instance). Again, the above complain does not mean that I (we) don't apreciate your work, just I (we) think that priorities should be fixed with another, more "productive / user friendly" criteria. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Even if I can set the "custom" dimension, I think that having A0-A5 range (or beyond) is very useful. For instance, KWord does support the entire Ax range, just putting the most common formats (A3-A5) on top of the pickup list. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=24070 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Nov 17 09:14:46 -0800 2006 --- I've seen how the most widely used proprietary program works, and seems fine to me: the ruler snap is set to the same visual guidelines of the ruler, that are every 2.5mm (you have 4 in every cm). In the ruler you have the number, i.e. 3, then a small vertical line (at 3.25 position), a bigger vertical line (at 3.5 position), then a small one again (at 3.75 pos.) and the next number (i.e. 4) Like: ...3--'--I--'--4--'--I--'--5... This setup seems very reasonable to me, and needs not custom configurability. In Draw is configurable but that is a drawing program, so you can have different and special needs, while for writing letters the above visual snap is all what you need. So better not bloat the config interface with another parameter to set (and consider the support issues to those that have accidentally set it wrong...). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 56737] IT: Incorrect translation of "Caption" ("Dicitura")

Probably because in italian we have different words for "caption" depending of the object we are referring to. So if is really correct to change "dicitura" with "didascalia" when referring to pictures, it's not call "didascalia" when referring to table rows/columns, but "intestazione" is better. For fields, we should find amore apropriate term as well (usually we have "nome" (name) for database fields, like "il nome del campo è..."). So sounds not very apropriate having these strings, for example: source\formwizard\dbwizres.src Volete indicare una didascalia per i campi? source\text\scalc\guide\consolidate.xhp Per consolidare le celle in base alle didascalie delle righe o delle colonne, la didascalia desiderata deve essere contenuta nell'area di origine selezionata. So please re-do changes limiting the scope of the substitution to the pictures/tables/objects inserted in a document, or situations where "didascalia" is apropriate (iano, are you Italian/speak italian? I mean, can you do and judge by yourself or do you need some help?) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If I load a Write document, or a Calc one with cell with hyphenator active, it does not hyphenate. I've some text, set as Italian regarding language (I've Italian also as default document language) To make it work as it should, I just have to: Tools -> Options -> Language settings -> Writing aids then do NOT touch anything, just press OK button, then Writer (or Calc) re-parses the text and hyphenates as expected. "Issue type: ENHANCEMENT and Target milestone: OOo Later" plus priority P4 means that is something not important to fix, and won't be fixed in a rasonable timeframe. For a user, this is a high priority instead. Having Calc behave in a so confusing way (against WYSIWYG), and also different from what is expected based on "another program very used" is a real problem. Please assign a higher priority and a Target milestone not far from now. From the description seems easy to fix, and hurts a lot the user. OOo has to become a viable alternative to other office suites, so we are also switching from users with strong motivation on Free Software to users that just want to try something that "works good" and is cheaper. Remains the problem that it does not really copy the format flag, so a subsequent FormatBrush copy from it fails, and the user sees a cell with a certain format that can't be copied (the format) to another with the brush. Strange, if you then reference that cell, the format IS copied. so you have A1 (shows as currency) A2=A1 (shows as currency) A3=A2 (shows as currency as well) But if you try to act in A2 or A3 copying format from other cells with the brush, you fail (i.e. copy the "number standard" format from another cell to try to remove the currency format). Developers in IRC channel has gave me the "implementation" reason for this, but since it's behaviour must conform to user expectation, I consider it a defect (and one developer agreed with me). The implementation reason was like "that's the formula that displays the result according to the input cells. [sw-issues] [Issue 26135] make ruler-items snap to configurable grid
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=26135 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Dec 8 04:25:05 -0800 2005 --- Please, don't forgive about this issue! Is really annoying not having a snap. On my opinion it has not the need to be configurable, a reasonable snap value would be enough (I guess 1mm). Now you can visually move ruler elements with a precision of a 1/100 of millimeter! Something absurd. Having a millimiter snap or just the snap used by M$ Word would be good. If someone wants more precision, the visual way is not the right one, he has to set numerically, of course. If you want a 5mm precision, just drag until you reach the half centimeter indicator, that is not hard to find with a 1 millimeter snap. I don't know the "insides" of OOo, but this is the "basic" of visual interaction design, regarding a tool very used, and one of the first problems that a reluctant "converter" from M$Office will protest against. It seems something that does not requires too much programming efforts but has huge benefits in OOo acceptance. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'm telling you what should do, what the user expects to do. If you change the filename in the formula, it should tell you that the filename is invalid. Implement it however you like, but don't let the sheet have a value that seems ok (0) while is not (the link is not working). As I tell you, you can rename the file, and if you can, someone sooner or later will do. Not having Calc report the issue is a problem. In addition, if BIG.ods is different file thatn big.ods, and the "shadow sheet" has been automatically created when I entered BIG.ods, it should do again when I enter big.ods, this is a consistent behaviour. At least some explicative error message should be issued. If you don't want to consider it a bug, classify it as "improvement", don't simpli close it please :) In any case, the implementatino of the "shadow sheet" is really bad to me, even if (or expecially because) is as Excell works. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 15667] External links aren't aut omatically removed
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=15667 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Oct 18 10:54:33 -0700 2005 --- I would put it in a higher priority. This defect is much worse now that a lot of people (hopefully) will migrate from Excel to OpenOffice. I've migratd all my files, and in Calc files that were Excel files with external links, after manually changing them to the .ods files (see my issue #55655), I've found that I still have the links to the old .XLS files, and also the "hidden sheets" to them! In any case a) this mechanism that is automatic only in one direction (creation) is very confusing (=bad) for the user. I did never thought about such "external links" list and "hidden sheets" until some expert pointed me to them in IRC channel. b) I think that the hidden sheet is a bad desigh choice. I've 40 calc files that take a single value from a big calc file, and I've that big file duplicated (copied as hidden sheet) 40 times. I think that the referred sheet does not have to be saved, and should be reloaded (and not saved in any case) when (if) needed. In addition consider that you could give to someone else a file that, and you as "average user" are not aware of, has a lot of "hidden" information (i.e. you copy a file and modify it to point to other files... your previous pointed data are still there, in hidden sheets...). And the fact that Excel does it is one more reason to do it different ;) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Then, swithching from Windows clients and samba to a native OOo under linux, I changed BIG.ods to big.ods, leaving the sheet name uppercase. So in a.ods cell A1 I substitute: ='file:///z/zzz_calc_test/BIG.ods'#$BIG.F8 with ='file:///z/zzz_calc_test/big.ods'#$BIG.F8 but the value was 0 (instead of the correct value of that cell, 22) I noticed that as soon as I entered the corrected filename, Calc uppercased it (from big.ods to BIG.ods). Then I noticed that in Edit -> Links there was: =file:///z/zzz_calc_test/BIG.ods Using "Modify" and picking up the lowercase file solved the problem. So there are 2 issues, OMHO: a) with case sensitive filesystem, if I have BIG.ods and big.ods, they should be managed as 2 different files, so a new linkg to "big.ods" should be created in the Edit -> Links list and the filename in the formula should be preserved b) since BIG.ods does not exist anymore, Calc should complain and not return "0" In the attached files, you have aurora.ods that is the a.ods in the above example, and pieni.ods that was PIENI.ods and is the BIG.ods of the above example. If in B11 you try to convert: ='file:///z/zzz_calc_test/zip/PIENI.ods'#$PIENI.F8 to ='file:///z/zzz_calc_test/zip/pieni.ods'#$PIENI.F8 you will fail as described - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The file is not found, since lowercase, and the value is set to 0, instead of give an error Frank states that "IMHO the costs for this doesn't match the outcome. So this should be a wontfix Issue.". This only means that he has no Excel files to convert. If developers instead lissen to users, and really want OOo adoption, should fix it ASAP. Some of the sheets cells have refences to another file, i.e.: ='file:///smbshare/Documents/2005_06/pieni.XLS'#$PIENI.$F$9 Even if in principle there could be the chance that one uses the wizard to convert the "master" file without converting also the "related" ones, I think that this is VERY unlikely (and if not, it could convert the single "master" file just saving it in OpenDoc format, without the wizard). In addition, the wizard, and I like it, creates the converted file with a lowercase extensions, even if the "source" file has it uppercase (and I've many files like that). I'm not only abandoning M$ Office, but M$ Windows as well in the client side (done years ago in the server one), so I will access files inside windows and no more samba, so using a case-sensitive filesystem (oh, I do hate case-sensitive filesystem!). So I ask that the wizard take care of looking in the cells that have a reference to an external file, and rename the reference with .ods instead of .xls or .XLS (or whatever case it founds). Having to do it by hand is very time consuming if you have many spreadsheets with such references like I have (around 600). As stated in previous issues I've raised, these are difficoults I'm facing now that I'm converting all my files into OpenDocument format, and I really think they should be take in high consideration to facilitate migration (i.e. for Massachusetts ;)) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I've started the conversion in a directory tree with about 3,500 files. With the "log" enabled, the conversion is 10x slower than without the log, and, even worse, becomes slower and slower. After 7 hours (sigh!) I was around 1,600 files converted, and I had to abort the process. I restarted without log enabled, and I completed it, as I said, with a document/minute ratio 10x faster, from start to end. Even when converting 680 Excel files the "log" flag made it be a painful experience (but did not re-tried without it, so don't know exactly what improvements you could have in a "pure" Excel conversion). I expect a lot of people use the wizard with their archives, so improvements in this regards is much more important than before. Please, improve the "log" option algorithm, or remove it. I've realized a python script that I run after the wizard, that checks if each M$ Office file has a converted one, and if not prints it's path. This works only if you have the "source" files and the converted one in the same position, of course. This is very beta software (I don't assume responsability for it), but seems to work fine, so you could include it in the wizard to run it at the end of the process, and it's probably more useful than the report (btw, it does not yet consider the templates). #!/usr/bin/env python """ Shows filenames of files not been converted by the OpenOffice conversion wizard (originale and converted files are supposed to be in the same directory) Copyright (c) by Marco Menardi[EMAIL PROTECTED] with the help of Paolo Veronelli [EMAIL PROTECTED] This program is Free Software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or any later version. Not to mention 1.x that will be the same of 2.0.1 but differ from 2.0! c) I think that documentation/books will be ready for 2.0, why condemn them to quick obsolescence/imprecision? d) I don't know the inner mechanism of OOo developement, but this is really a trivial fix, and in addition is a "revert" to a previous behaviour. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54979 Issue #:|54979 Summary:|Page preview MUST be translated "Anteprima di stampa" |and not "Vista pagina" Component:|l10n Version:|OOo 2.0 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|ui Assigned to:|iano Reported by:|mmenaz --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Sep 22 09:52:40 -0700 2005 --- The italina translation of "Page preview" that in 1.x was "Anteprima di stampa" now has been changed, in the file menu, to "Vista pagina". This is not a good choice, and all people in IRC channel #openoffice.org-it agree. The translation an italian user expects to see for that function, if he is used to Windows or the italian localizations of KDE or Gnome, is "Anteprima di stampa", it's something that has become "standard" translation of preview. Also, if you select "Vista pagina", then in the preview you have the button "Chiudi anteprima", ("chiudi"=close) and not "Chiudi vista", that would be consistent with the (wrong) new translation. Please use "Anteprima di stampa" as the translation of "Page preview" - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. In Windows, Draw hangs (freezes). It has been confirmed by other people on IRC using m128 (while I've m125) In GNU/Linux (debian unofficial packages), crashes on my pc, while seems to work fine to someone else (but with m128, no one in the channel tried with m125) btw, I've no java runtime installed in GNU/Linux, while I have in Windows. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=49340 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon May 16 05:33:36 -0700 2005 --- Seems that is just very slow in preparing the preview of the image. The m103 under GNU/Linux takes 9 seconds to show preview (Athlon 2400) The m95 under Windows takes 3 seconds (Athlon 1700) But, with m103 under Linux (not m95 under windows), if you keep click on the tabs, also [macro] is slow, and sometimes crashes Writer (try clicking on all tabls repetely, closing the dialog while in [Picture], reopening and re-cliking until [mcro]). [sw-issues] [Issue 47787] Adding a line in Web Layour freezes Writer
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=47787 User mmenaz changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|CLOSED|UNCONFIRMED Resolution|FIXED | --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Apr 21 04:58:45 -0700 2005 --- I can confirm that with m95 it's fixed, but I think there still is something odd with it. The structure of the file is simple: a tite an a table and a page break (btw, how can I see this break? M$ Word shows it). (times are taken on my Athlon 1700 pc, 512MB ram, Win2k) If I insert a paragraph (Enter) before the first table title ("Villa Alcyone") it takes 1-2 seconds. This sounds good since, from a user point of view, all the sequent tables have to be moved down one line (but I don't know internal structure). But if I insert a paragraph before the "Majon 29" title, it takes 9 seconds, but that table is around the half file lenght position! If you go to the very bottom table, that empty titled "Condominio", and you insert a paragraph, it's almost immediate. If you then go torwards top of 3 tables, ("Casa Verocai") it takes 3 seconds. If you go up 3 more ("Villa Sorapis") it's 5-6 seconds And the "Ca' Revis" table is 9-10 seconds... So my point is that in every position it should be as fast as when you enter the paragraph at the top of the file (1-2 seconds), or much faster. A slowlness of 9-10 seconds has no explainations, except some code problems, OMHO. Let me know ;) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=1820 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jan 27 07:38:24 -0800 2005 --- In addition to what cloph said, I've done some tests again, with Win2K and m71s1, and "paolom", a friend of mine in #openoffice.org-it, with m69 under Slackware 10. Seems to be not a code-translation problem, but the ability of keeping and using the set value: load calc -> disable "same as locale setting" -> OK button -> exit calc (not saving the spreadsheet) load calc -> enable "same as locale setting" -> OK button -> it works -> exit calc (not saving the spreadsheet) load calc -> does NOT work, even if the flag is still checked (enabled) I've NOT enabled the "pre-loader OOo" (sorry, I don't remember what is the name of the icon on the system try that pre-loads some part of OOo). So seems that the value is loaded by the Language dialog, but not by the program itself, except when exiting from the Language dialog. In addition, I would suggest to change the label of the option from "same as local setting" to "convert to local setting". thanks - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
