Jagdeep, the guitar tremolo kinda sound i was talking about is a preset in Absynth. Its made up of three oscillators, each having a saw wave. Two of them are tuned to the tonic note, one is tuned to the fifth.The amplitude envelope structure is same, each rising and falling periodically, but with various time periods. This whole sound had some filters applied and then applied small delay values one after the other. And i think, the examples u gave from the Kannathil Muthamittal song and Aha Thamizhamma are more about having amplitude envelopes, than about arps. Arpeggiators have that distinct move up or down the scale over a range of keys, which is kinda absent in the above. Rather, some sort of amplitude envelope with highs and lows (prolly trigerred with a gate) is used to produce a chopping effect. And on that sound, chord progressions (Kannathil song) and melody lines (Aha Thamizhamma) are played. Thats my take on it. A better example of a arpeggiator that I can think of rite now is in the intro of Uyirin Uyire (Kakha kakha). I think theres an arp with panning and filter changed continually on that sound. And around 2:25, I have used a synth sound with a gate, that gave me the chopping effect, similiar to the sounds in Kannathil and Aha thamizhamma songs. By the way, the other Absynth preset in Kannathil Intro (the flute kinda sound with some scrathy noise behind it) is also used in the 'I wanna be free' song from tehzeeb. It comes midway in the intro. Please pour in more thoughts from ur side too. The kannathil muthamittal sounds r synth leads from a korg or a motif... what u call a guitar tremolo may well be a a syhth lead with a dillferent arpegiator programming. ny ways the arpegiator is a continuous automated running of keys in a desired manner...egkannathil muthamittal From 5:38 - 5:44 in the song u can hear it clearly . Another place where he has used such an arp is Aha Tamilamma in Kangaala Keithu Sei 0:25 - 0:36 and 2:49 - 3:15... beautiful i must say. What i feel is that the use of arpegiators is good only if they r used in such a wonderful wayotherwise it is difficult to get rid of their techno feel and Boss makes them sound as earthy as a wonderful ethnic instrument... there in lies his greatness.
