Sivaji has emerged the undisputed king all
over. The boss is ruling in each and every
theatre it has been released in. According
to trade pundits, Sivaji has racked in an
unbelievable Rs.95 crores in India alone,
by the end of its third weekend. Unbelievable,
isn't it? But, it's true, because
as opposed to other Tamil films,
  [Sivaji]
Sivaji was not just released in Tamil Nadu but across
India with a record of 650-plus screens including 18 theatres
in Maharashtra, 4 in Delhi and Kolkata, respectively.
The movie is a major hit in all these theatres. And is
a record for any regional language movie. In Delhi even
the Hindi junta is choosing Sivaji over Jhoom Barabaar
Jhoom and other Hindi movies. The overwhelming response
to the film in Delhi came as a surprise considering that
the film was in Tamil and without subtitles. But people,
who are drawn towards the theatres due to the hype, looking
for entertainment, are not disappointed. In Andhra Pradesh,
both the Telugu and Tamil version were released, with
both doing unbelievable business. In close to three weeks,
the Telugu version has crossed Rs.18-crore mark. Maharashtra
and Kerala have also reported never-heard-before business.

Overseas too, Sivaji is doing mind-boggling business.
In Malaysia it has already crossed Rs7.8-crore mark. In
its third weekend, the movie was placed in the second
spot behind the big budget summer extravaganza - Transformers,
but ahead of the other big release Die Hard 4.0 and Fantastic
Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer.

The numbers from the US is not available yet, but the
movie is said to have broken all the records for a Tamil
movie, taking 100% opening across the country in the first
week and dropping down to 80% in the third week. The collections
are expected to have crossed Rs.4.5 crores.

Rajinikanth's popular markets - Japan and South
Africa - was to welcome The Boss in the last week of June and
sources say that the advance booking for the movie is
something that was, till recently, unheard of; close to
90% opening is expected for the first weekend in both
the countries.

In UK, the movie has collected Rs.2.75 crores so far.
Easily one of the biggest Indian movies of the year.

No official details have been released from Singapore
and Australia. But here again, the movie had taken a grand
opening clocking 100% in the first weekend and dropping
down to 75% in the third week.

She hooked us with her alaaps on alternative rock band Prodigy's 'Smack My
Bitch Up' and became a favourite guest artiste on the band's subsequently
projects. Her peculiar Arabic infused Indian style of vocals has attracted a
number of top musicians to collaborate with her - Shahin Badar is an
established name in the music industry today.


Based in UK, this Indian singer-songwriter eased into spaces other Indian
artistes haven't been able to. "I was brought up in Kuwait and lived in a
multi-cultural society; so I was accustomed to listening to Arabic music.
I've always liked the blend of contemporary sounds with Sufi, electronica,
dance and big beat," says Shahin who is currently working on her new album.

Though her big break, she confesses, came from her collaboration with
Prodigy, her voice has been picked up for many Hollywood soundtracks.
"Prodigy is out of this world - working with Liam Howlett (frontman) is just
indescribable. He's a legend and we have a great bond. I was also invited by
Liam to perform 'Smack My Bitch Up' live at the BBC Radio1. We worked on it
together and he totally respected my ideas. The girls who had just come down
to watch us kept screaming excitedly and kept trying to imitate my chant. I
had a wonderful time," she recalls, adding that those chants were featured
in award-winning Hollywood movies such as 'Closer' and 'Charlies Angels'.

Shahin has also had a brush with Bollywood - her vocals were used in
'Zubeida' and 'Yuva'. "It was great to work with AR Rahman, one of my
favourites. I'd love to work with him again. My favourite with Rahman was a
track called 'Azizi' from the Hollywood film 'Thief of Baghdad'. The song is
beautiful, but it's a shame that it never got released," she says.

Hello, hello, hello. Took a few days to recover from my sessions with A.R.
He works through the night so I'm still jet lagging. By the way the work
went really well and I'm really liking how the songs are turning out.

As you can see the paragraph problem has been solved, so no more going
squint eyed.

Thanks a ton for the imputs on casting and title, some of them are really
interesting and I've passed them on to the director.

Hey those of you who have not seen the Tamil version please don't feel
obliged to see it. I'd rather you'll wait for the Hindi version. At this
rate there wont be anyone left to see what we make in Hindi.

Guys, Mira, its MEMENTO not MOMENTO!!! Relax just kidding, I know I need to
do a spell check but I'm really lazy and at 3am I'm not at my best. Ok while
on Memento let me also clarify that I said that - 'I did not like Memento',
which is very different from saying that - 'Memento is not a good film'. I
sincerely believe that film making/viewing is extremely subjective, and that
each person has his/her own opinion. And each person is entitled to his/her
own opinion. So I usually take care to say that a particular film did not
work for me, as opposed to its not a good film. Who am I to pass judgement
on a film all I can say is that I did not like it. Others may like it and I
respect that. Why Memento did not work for me is that it left me confused.
By the end of the film I had no idea who had killed the hero's wife? Had she
been killed at all? Had he killed his own wife? Did he finally get the guy
who killed his wife? Was he still searching? Did he have a wife at all? So
while, in theory, I can appreciate the attempt of writing a screenplay which
travels backwards in time, at some point I need to know what actually
happened in the film. And personally I feel that I should get the film
without the need to read what the web says about it, or articles in
magazines which explain the film. So for people who got the film... power to
you! I'm sincerely glad that you enjoyed it. But I have to admit that I
failed to understand what was going on, so I didn't enjoy it. And once
again, having seen both films I sincerely believe that Murgadoss has written
a completely different script and screenplay. Thats my personal opinioln. I
can see that some of you dont agree with me, but thats fine, lets agree to
disagree.

Quite a few of you have asked me how I select my films, so thats what my
next post is going to be about. Till then.

Jagdeesh is right,Kadrigopalnath played for only 2 songs in Duet.The
rest were played by a senior musician - Raju,he was credited as the
western sax player for Duet.I think Raju was the one who played the
sax in "Anjali" song in Duet.Sadly Raju went unnoticed while
Kadrigopalnath got all the credit for the sax parts played in Duet.

(Does it go by some other name?)


No, because there is nothing out of the ordinary with that track. It's listed 
as part of his regular discography as a sound arranger.




Also shouldn't the Sivaji Rap bit for bald Rajini's intro be included?

one u have which one i have... someone to tell rehman like unity of light 
concerts, he has 2 think hereafter abt unity in releasing trax whichever lang 
he brings out after seeing d subject thread - few queries with endless 
confusion in traks 2 see d way rehman presented his albums to his fans. 
either tracks r over added or missed & not equally placed in all versions is a

One of the Vishwa Vidhaata releases had 2 Instrumentals though. Think it was
the indian release.

Not all of it was played by Kadrigopalnath. There was another artist who 
played the saxophone and Kadri came only for 2 songs I think. You can 
check the credits on the cassette/cd cover for the name. Nevertheless 
some brilliant work by Kadri in that movie.

this rare casette/CD?

to upload all the tracks that appeared on the tamil

has an extra track as hudum pyara pyara.
Is it really an ARR composition for the movie??
OR the music company put in to fill the CD?
This one sounds soo out of place in the listing.
And interestingly, the lyrics were by Mahbood
whereas all other tracks are by Mishra.
Its surely no there in south versions.

hello friends,

Do help me out in this...

When Duet soundtrack was released in Tamil on Pyramid
Audio, only the tamil soundtrack had a lot of tracks
(I nearly 14). 

Unfortunately, these tracks never found their place in
the telugu and hindi versions of Duet soundtrack.

I am referring especially to the instrumental
saxophone tracks ( there was one track: 'Saxophone
lullaby' amongst others and an absolutely class track
- 'Love is Torture' sung by Noel James - a very short
duration.. (perhaps the only solo track he ever sung
for Rahman, will be delighted if any one can correct
me here. Of course, I am not including the countless
movies where in he was listed in background vocals)

Now what I need is:

1. Can someone list all the tracks? This will be easy
for anyone who has the cassette or CD of the movie. At
that time, I took it from a friend of mine and have
been hunting for the cassette ever since.

2. Can someone point out a place, where I can retrieve
this rare casette/CD?

3. In case thats possible, will someone be kind enough
to upload all the tracks that appeared on the tamil
version of Duet?

is signed by him!! It really is the perfect circle!!

I would like to have the entire catalogue compiled and released. 

With your permission, can the fans here collaborate and contribute in
making that compilation and share within ourselves?

Many of them might have the entire list already. And some of the
concert only songs might not be available at all. Still an attempt
would be an great opportunity for fans like me to get those missing
pieces.

Hmmm..copy right issues..but we have enough originals and we are
collecting it purely for personal use. Kindly let me know your
thoughts on this.

A week after it was shipped, I have finally received my Lagaan limited edition 
box set. Blame it on the courier company called "Blazeflash"!! Anyway, the good 
news is that it is here and it is really amazing. I plan to start watching 
Chale Chalo tonight. 

The best part of it all is that I was one of the first 100 and so I got my box 
personally signed by Aamir. It really brings everything to a full circle. When 
I first got my CD and Cassette of Lagaan, I was able to procure the ones signed 
by Aamir. Then I met him during the launch of Satyajit's Lagaan book. Again, it 
was signed by him. Now finally, even my DVD of Lagaan is signed by him!! It 
really is the perfect circle!!

I was just watching season 3 of the HBO series ENTOURAGE and just happened
to hear a remix "Ei Ajnabee" played in the car. I have ripped 30 seconds
from the episode and uploaded it to Megashare and Megaupload. I dont know if

[arr] Kulu Valiley in Kannada?

On my way to work today I heard the Kannada version of Kulu Valiley from Muthu. 
It was the same instrumentation and even the singer was Udit Narayan. This must 
be another copy like all those different versions of Mukabla in Hindi. Anyone 
has any idea what the name of the Kannada movie is?

It's funny but I heard this song quite a few times in Hindi, but today on my 
way to work when it was playing on the radio, I heard something very odd about 
it. Firstly, this version didn't have the "Ow .. ah ah ah.." that is part of 
the first interlude. It just had the music. Secondly, it didn't have the female 
vocals in the second interlude either. Again, just the music. Is this the case 
even with the cassette version of Humse Hai Mukabla? I bought it but i dont 
think I ever heard it. I only heard this song in Hindi on the TV. I always 
assumed it was just the translation that was different. Is this song similar to 
the difference between the Hindi and Tamil versions of Humma Humma?

Kannada version - Its AR in the lead... :-)) [ I can see the smile on  your
face]

For Malayalam - Its Naresh Iyer in the lead ... AR in the background doing
"jhoom jhoom..." , doesnt word any of the Mal lyrix.
