Text:
NEW DELHI: The Border Security Force (BSF) jawans will now march to the
beats of Oscar winner A R Rahman. The music
composer,
who enchanted the world with his `Jai Ho' number, has composed the theme
song for the paramilitary force.

The five minute song — `Hum Seema Suraksha Bal... Veeron ka
haiye
dal (We are the Border Security Force... it is the force of the
brave)' —
composed by Rahman praises the strength and valour of the force which is
responsible for guarding the Indo-Pakistan and Indo-Bangladesh borders.

"The credit for the
songgoes
to Meghalaya governor R S Moosahary, who is a former director-general
of the force. He helped us get in touch with Rahman, who composed the song
without charging any money for it," BSF chief M L Kumawat told reporters on
the occasion of the force's investiture ceremony here on Thursday.

After being formally released on the occasion, the song, which also captures
the emotional tribulations of a jawan guarding the border while leaving his
family behind, comes with a video — titled `Borderman' — showing BSF men in
action along the border, undergoing training and the famous `change of
guard' ceremony at Wagah border.

Kumawat said: "The song and the video capture the true spirit of the force.
Rahman has also promised to come and spend time with our men to boost their
morale."

On the occasion, the BSF chief also announced that the force — which will
soon begin the process of raising its strength by recruiting 29,000 more
personnel — would also undertake a massive modernisation project costing
over Rs 6,000 crore in the next five years.

The plan will also see the construction of 509 new border outposts along the
Indo-Pak and Indo-Bangla borders, nine new sectors and three more frontier
headquarters.

Considering every 5th guy in the world is an Indian, and considering that to
the best of my knowledge there are no Rahman like musicians (globally
appreciated) in China, I think Rahman is safely the most listened to
musician in the world.

The music technology has gone through an immense change since Roja. The
songs are beautiful and delightful to hear, even today...but to recreate Roja
or something similar to Roja today would pretty much bring ARR to square 1. I'm
very sure if a storyline similiar to Roja was given today, ARR himself would
give the music a totally different outlook...

Oh Sorry, Probably I was wrong in putting my views across. I didn't mean
exactly like 'ROJA'...I mean something like tat which would take someone
entirely into a heavenly place. 'ROJA' had only Indian music flavour in it
without any western classical music unlike in any other music albums. Something
very soothing, emotional and ..u know that something which you can't
express by words.

I shall not drag this any further, Folks, if interested comment on this thread
otherwise please leave it.. My intention was only to see how many in our group
would like this & I didn't mean to hurt anyone or their love for ARRji.

Thanks & Regards

Hi ,It'll be great if rahman can do that, however I feel that Roja is now
more than 15 years old...music has evolved and rahman has evolved...it'll be
great if rahman can create an album having Roja's significance but in sync
with todays music style and vibe. He has undoubtedly made several such
albums since then.

Re: [arr] Oru Kanavin Isai (ARR's biography in Vikatan) - Week 7 - Scans and Translation

2009-05-21 Thread Amith Chandhran
There is a correction. The Tabla maestro (and father of the Tabla maestro
Zakir Hussain) was called Ustad Allah Rakha Qureshi, and not Allah Rakha
Khan as mentioned by Vikatan. Ustad sahab had directed music for some Hindi
films, and was credited as A. R. Qureshi. I remember reading somewhere that
Naushad Ali and Ustad Allah Rakha Qureshi were friends and great admirers of
each other.

Also, I remember reading a little different version of the whole story.
Dileep's mother took him to a famous astrologer called Ulaganathan to get
his horoscope done. She asked him to suggest an Islamic name for Dileep. He
suggested to name him as Abdul Rahman and further suggested that it be
shortened to A. R. Rahman. Upon asking why the other initial 'R', the
astrologer replied "Give him a name with those two initials and he will grow
up to be a great man. Mark my words". His mother did accordingly, but on the
suggestion of music director Naushad Ali, AR changed the letters A and R to
Allah Rakha.

Thanks,

-

A Big Gift

"In the year 2006 on January 6, I got a very special and priceless gift from
God. Allah gave me the opportunity to offer my prayers in Madeenah. I spent
the entire day there. I cant compare that happiness with anything else. That
was a birthday gift to me.

I am an artist. How much ever is the work pressure, I dont give up my
prayers. Prayers reduce my work load and give me mental satisfaction, and
boosts my confidence. It gives and enriches my belief that God is present
near me to guide me in whatever I do. Moreover, it gives the fear that I am
answerable to whatever I do in my next birth. I am purified because of this

Exactly! Infact Farhan says he is excited to sing for AR. Why would he decline
to sing for him? The headline in HT is very misleading, I guess AR wanted
Farhan after he saw him perform in the FILMFARE awards.

[arr] BSF jawans to march to A R Rahman's beats

2009-05-21 Thread Sreekrishnan R
New Delhi, May 21 : Oscar winner A R Rahman, who enchanted the
world with his 'Jai Ho' number, has now composed the theme song for
BSF, his first for any paramilitary force.

The five minute
song-- 'Hum Seema Suraksha Bal... Veeron ka hai ye dal' (We are the
Border Security Force... It is the force of the brave) composed by
Rahman praises the strength and valour of the border force.

"The
credit for the song goes to Meghalaya Governor R S Mooshahary who is a
former DG of the force. He helped us in getting in touch with Rahman,
who composed the song without charging any money for it," BSF Director
General M L Kumawat told PTI on the sidelines of a function here during
which the song was played for the public for the first time.

The
song, which also captures the emotional tribulations of a jawan
guarding the border while leaving his family behind, comes with a video
showing the BSF men in action along the border, undergoing training and
the famous 'change of guard' ceremony at the Wagah border.

"The
song and the video capture the true spirit of the force. Rahman has
also promised to come and spend time with our men to boost their
morale," Kumawat said.

A BSF jawan, present at the function said, "It is a matter of pride that my
idol Rahman has composed a song for me ".

Re: [arr] Farhan Akhtar declines Rahman's offer

If Arr really likes the voice, I feel he will wait for Farhan to recover. I
dont think Farhan meant that he has declined the offer. It is HT who is doing
the speculation!!

Farhan Akhar's song for Tony D'Souza's underwater thriller Blue that
composer A.R. Rahman has decided to record at the last minute might get stalled
a bit as the director-actor- singer is suffering from a sore throat.

Farhan developed a sore throat while shooting for his latest Kartik Calling
Kartik in a dry humid studio here.
"And I'm hugely allergic to dust. My throat has gone bad at a time when I least
needed my voice to go bad. Working in dusty studios and singing just don't go
hand-in-hand. I guess I'll just have to live with it," Farhan, who debuted as a
signer and actor with Rock On!, told IANS.

[arr] AR Rahman has been winning our hearts since the earl y 90’s

2009-05-21 Thread Vithur
AR Rahman

AR Rahman has been winning our hearts since the early 90’s when he began his
career in films as a music composer. His music appeals to our conscience in
a way that almost no artist has been able to, with his work of art. A very
humble and rooted man, A R Rahman was born in a musically affluent Tamil
family. Music burned in his very soul right from the very beginning and his
vision to win the world over with this melodious magic has been a success.
Apart from scoring the music for movies like Bombay, Dil Se and Taal, he has
been involved in several projects which bring out the humanitarian side of
him and really help us witness the emotional bond he shares with his
motherland, our country. He made an album Vande Mataram to mark India’s 50th
anniversary of independence and followed it up with “Jana Gana Mana”, a
conglomeration of performances by many leading artists of Indian Classical
music.
In Indian films, everyone remembers him as the man who gave life to movies
like Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, Saathiya and now for Slumdog Millionaire.
British directed Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire helped Rahman to boost his
career and take it worldwide as he personally won not one, but two Oscars
for his music. Who hasn’t heard “Jai Ho”?
And today, political parties and worldwide artists are craving to be a part
of Rahman’s music. The Pussycat Dolls even converted bits of the song into
English and have taken to the famous Bollywood dancing.
A R Rahman has helped put Indian films on the map once again and has proved
to the world that we have talent and skill in the arts in abundance as well
and has made Indian music reach a summit no artist has been able to earlier.

Re: [arr] Can ARRji Create another ROJA ??

2009-05-21 Thread Gayathri Chandrakasan
The music technology has gone through an immense change since Roja. The songs
are beautiful and delightful to hear, even today...but to recreate Roja or
something similar to Roja today would pretty much bring ARR to square 1. I'm
very sure if a storyline similiar to Roja was given today, ARR himself would
give the music a totally different outlook...

Why should he create another Roja? If he creates another Roja, then would u not
say "This music sounds exactly like Roja and ARR is repetitive and has lost his
touch"..

Please mature & think ahead. These kind of questions have been answered by ARR
and in this forum innumerable number of times !!

Hi Folks,

I was thinking for a long time now whether ARRji can create another 'ROJA'? If
YES, I want ONE. Who all else think like me. Please pour in your thoughts.

Thanks,

Re: [arr] Can ARRji Create another ROJA ??

2009-05-21 Thread partha sarathi
Oh Sorry, Probably I was wrong in putting my views across. I didn't mean
exactly like 'ROJA'...I mean something like tat which would take someone
entirely into a heavenly place. 'ROJA' had only Indian music flavour in it
without any western classical music unlike in any other music albums. Something
very soothing, emotional and ..u know that something which you can't
express by words.

I shall not drag this any further, Folks, if interested comment on this thread
otherwise please leave it. My intention was only to see how many in our group
would like this & I didn't mean to hurt anyone or their love for ARRji.

Thanks & Regards
P'ARR'THA.

I think he has already created another ROJA with many of his works. Each
film is new flavour.

I believe Raavan would be yet another masterpiece from ARR - Mani combo
