i agree with adithya completely...no amount of praise can be heaped upon
rehna tu...its about as 'vintage' as rahman can get.its really amazing
that the best song on a given album is always sung by rahman himself!!

What was movie's budget? It must surely have been less than 25 crore,
so how can it be flop?

I checked out wikipedia page of the movie for movie's budget and guess
what I read -

"The movie was supposed to be released on February 13, 2009, but A. R.
Rahman's continued absence from the project led to a delay in the film
getting released. The movie's back ground score remained incomplete
and hence a delay in release by one week."

what rubbish..

[arr] Re: Delhi-6 - Thumbs Down by Taran Adarsh

2009-02-22 Thread Jahanzeb Farooq
you are right, the lyrics of Rehna tu don't make sense if meant for
father-son relationship either. but here Rishi was not even his
father. it was totally shocking, i never thought ROM will spoil it so
miserably. i had lot of expectations from him, especially regarding
the songs. he completely "destroyed" the song. shall i say this is the
WORST picturization (or "placement" perhaps) of an ARR song ever??

though i had already mentioned this doubt after i saw Abhishek and
Rishi on CD booklet, but that time i thought Rishi would be playing
his father.

besides Rehna tu, he spoiled all the rest too. masakali is a good
example. and why the hell to place Dil gira dafatan there when
Roshan did not even start to fall for Bittu?? strange how terribly ROM
got it wrong. i am feeling sooo angry.

I loved the movie actually... And abt Rehna Tu, it was a surprise
element to me as it was sung to Delhi rather than lady love and on
second thoughts I relaized that the lyric suit the city well too :-) It
was an interesting decision...

I totally agree with you Pavan. He is almost 95% accurate about the BO
status of any hind movie. Taran wrote that Ghajini will break all the
previous BO records and we all saw that it did.

I remember he was wrong on other time.. i guess it was for Mangal Pandey
where he gave almost 4 stars (i think) and said that movie will do good.
but it bombed at the BO.

As i said earlier.. he is very good in analysing the BO performance of
any Hindi movie.

Sath.

well by wasted i mean un-noticed or un-celebrated, as bollywood has
this tradition that music is appreciated, remembered, wins awards etc,

I have seen it and I wouldn't say that ARR's work got wasted. All the
songs are there, some in parts, some repeatedly.

ARR's music brings entertainment in the movie.

Of course the music didn't gel so well in the movie as does in a Mani,
Shankar film. But everybody knows that. NOt only this director but
several directors have failed here.

The placement of songs, there effect on the pace of movie, these all
vary person to person. It was this director's film so he let his view
prevail.

Nobody seeing the movie would be able to complain about the music. They
would be thankful to ARR's music and would mention is as a single
positive part of the movie.

I can say that I didn't find any single person complaining about D6
music so far.

Taran gave RDB a rating of 2.5 out of 5...we know how huge hit was RDB..His
reviews may be trash..but he is spot on when he talks about movie's fate at box
office. The only time I remember him getting it wrong was for Rang De Basanti..

Hold on !!!
you are trusting the most horrible reviewer he gave Billu 3.5 movie
shaved the box office.
RDB was also trashed by the TRASH but it did score well. Trust me I
have watched the movie and I liked it, just bcs I hate the typical
Indian entertainment masala without sense. D6 is appealing and if you
are careful you will definitely discover yourself. Good theme.

what disaster?..Just coming back from movie..a wonderfull movie
I should say..And Our boss rocks big time not only with songs but
with BGMs also..Those who want masala films should not waste
their time watching this film..and they have no right to comment
on such movies..this film categorises itself in different league..

Reviewers do their jobs bcoz they are earning..bad or good
they are gettinng paid for that..so they would not mind proclaming
good movie a bad one and vice-versa..better go and watch it!!

Guys - Lets be clear about one thing. Taran;s reviews are all based
more from the Box office perspective while Rajeev Masand's reviews
are based on a more holistic picture. Either ways, 8 out of 10 times,
Taran has got it right in terms of the the possible box office
performance of the movie. I dont like some of the comments Taran
makes but that doesnt mean his box office performance reviews are
thrash.

Anyways.lets hope Rajeev's review is better.

I tend to disagree.. Another classic after RDB by Rakeysh Mehra and the
highlight of the film being A R Rahman's music ... Just got to see it
last night

What kind of guy is this..

Hold on !!!
you are trusting the most horrible reviewer he gave Billu 3.5 movie
shaved the box office.
RDB was also trashed by the TRASH but it did score well. Trust me I
have watched the movie and I liked it, just bcs I hate the typical
Indian entertainment masala without sense. D6 is appealing and if you
are careful you will definitely discover yourself. Good theme.

I always read this guys name as Trash. But I now have no regrets
calling him so. His review was expected and what more can be since
theres no Yash / Karan / SRK. That alone is the reason for him to
review so badly. Either he was all along drowned in his phone not
paying interest to dialogs. What made him give 3.5 to Billu if D6 is
1.5.
Teri oonchi shaan hai maula
Meri arzi maan le maula
Tu hai sab kuch jaanne waala
Main hoon tera maanne waala
Kaise kaison ko diya hai
Aise vaison ko diya hai

D6 is definitely a very good movie after RDB. Just like the feel
after watching the RDB first time, I walked with a thought would this
sell. later every scene I recall is forcing me to watch it again.
AB is not as great as seen in Yuva but is far better than any of his
other work including Sarkar.

The trend continues. Like most of the times, whenever the music by ARR
becomes such a big blockbuster hit, the movie falters, and it falters
big time. I couldn't believe that Rakeysh also fallen like this with a
bad screenplay.

ARR composed gems for this movie, but now the film has been declared a
disaster. after Yuvaraaj, now its Delhi-6.

Hi Gopal,

My CD has a mirror in the front. Inside cover on the left has a photo
of Abhishek and Sonam and on the right, the CD itself with pictures of
red mirchis. On the back cover, the track listing. That's it. Man,
do I feel cheated.

Does the packaging on your CD come with a twin fold - the CD in the centre with
a fold on
either side? The ones I have seen are just single fold - the CD slot on the
right and the
mirror on the left. That probably explains the missing booklet... Trust

Hey Gopal,

Funny you mentioned that. I just received my copy of Delhi 6 from
Nehaflix in the mail and there was no booklet at all, not even an
insert! Just some cheap packaging that looked torn. I was so
disappointed. For me, the artwork, lyrics and whole packaging is one
of the reasons why I buy the original CD. I sent Nehaflix a message
about this.

I COMPLETELY AGREE. What a masterpiece!!! Tears rolled over as I
listened, or rather, melted into Arziyan. Every song is so deep,
emotion evoking, rich and fabulous! This new year couldn't have been
better. It's such an experience to simply melt into each and every one
of the tracks in this movie. Now, my contention that ARR should work
only with such caliber of directors (Rakeysh, Mani, Danny) is getting

I bow down to you sir. I grew with your music all these years, and

Just heard from somewhere sometime next week. As usual, another ARR
delay. I should learn to just ignore release dates for ARR releases
as they almost never come true. And for some reason, they happen more
often with ARR releases.

2009-01-13 Thread Jahanzeb Farooq
oh my, the albums looks such a treat with so many songs and range of
music (can assume from song titles). i can see a number of new/unknown
singers here. oh and i was thinking it is Shafqat Amanat Ali in Maula
(Arziyan), did not realize it was Javed Ali (has he become ARR's
favorite??). and good to see Rekha Bharadwaj, but for two songs, hmm.
good to see Benny and Tanvi too, for two songs. annd fantastic to see
ARR in Rehna tu.

I am extremely excited about the music prospects for this film.

Storyline reminds me of Swades in a basic way. It's a movie about

discovery, learning, etc., which would allow for some soulful, thought

provoking music, which is right up ARR's alley. And with Mehra known

to give quite a bit of creative freedom to ARR from his RDB

experience, look out for a stunning soundtrack coming up. We already

know that Amitabh Bacchan heard a devotional piece "Maula" and just

couldn't stop listening to it. Movie is urban based, NRI

perspectives, which should allow for some great fusion. This

soundtrack should be out next month if the movie sticks to its Feb 20

release.

I don't want to raise too much expectations for myself, but I am

extremely, extremely excited about the music possibilities here. And

good to know that Sonu Nigam is singing!

[arr] Re: Delhi-6 promo unveiled at Dubai IFF 2008

2008-12-14 Thread Chord
