Yes, of course, but the point is that I'm not sure that the two company are
totally separated and can have independent support structure...

Thank for your help, Gian

Re: Integer Field Validation

2009-11-10 Thread Vani Masilamani
Hi All,

When an integer field is pushed from display only form to a regular form it
converts the character to zero.

I need a validation at the button click itself in the display only, before a
push to the regular form.

Thanks,

Hi All,

Remedy converts character as zero in an integer field.
Is there a way to throw an error when a button is clicked, after a character is
entered in an integer field?

Thanks,

Re: Info about incident 7.03

2009-11-10 Thread strauss
If you implement multi-tenancy correctly, no one in one company can see
anything in the other, not even categorizations. You won't be using
unrestricted access for anyone except administrators, and the customers will
need to be segregated into separate Customer Companies just like the Support
Staff are. It gets much more interesting if there is ANY crossover required
for either customers or ticket assignment, but that can be done as well, if you
plan ahead in your configuration. If you have requirements that exceed the
OOTB application (like previous assignee groups retaining access to a ticket
they no longer have assigned to them, you will start to get into customization
of the app. There are _supposed_ to be some improvements in multi-tenancy in
7.5/7.6 but I have just gotten a test environment up and have not evaluated
them yet. There are some detailed discussions on our web site under IT Support
Staff Linkshttp://arsweb4.ars.unt.edu/index_prod.htm.

BMC_Person or Ast:AssetPeople. - URGENT -

2009-11-10 Thread Frex Popo
Hello everyone,

Just received a request to think about how we can start storing data on users,
data consumers, providers, etc.. in the CMDB. At first glance, I noticed the
BMC_Person class which I could use... Obviously we already store more or less
the same data on CTM:people...But...

We also need to be able to relate every instance of this data to some CI.

Is there a an existing relationship I could use or create a new one from, with
minimal work and maintenance headaches in the future?

Looking at the Asset management forms of the CI  I also noticed there is a tab
PERSON with a table pointing to a form namely Ast:AssetPeople. I am thinking
instead of having to create an AIE data exchange to pull the CI (Person) data
and the relationship data from a remote database, I could have some filter
which creates the link between the CI in the Asset form(s) and the LoginID or
instanceId of the person in the CTM:people?!

Any thoughts will be very much appreciated.

Regards
frex

E-mail engine - incredibly sensitive to formatting?

2009-11-10 Thread Barber, David
All,

Is it just my imagination, or is the e-mail engine incredibly sensitive
to the formatting on multiple recipients.

It seems to only accept them in the form j...@a.com; b...@b.com - if you
try to put space-semicolon-space, it seems to fail. Carriage returns
(or line feeds) are also not accepted.

We're getting a lot of errors in our email messages form, some are from
valid errors (spaces within the address, multiple full stops), but
others I just cannot really figure.

Currently running on ARS 7.0.1 patch 006 on Solaris. I had a look over
some email functionality on one of our old (and still running) ARS 4.5.2
servers, and that seemed to be happy with the carriage returns

Its impossible to educate thousands of users on the correct formatting,
so would have to perform a series of filter actions - remove all spaces,
all double full stops, all carriage returns, then replace every
semi-colon with semi-colon space . or is there a much easier option?

Regards

Dave Barber

VB 6 ARS Screen pop issue

2009-11-10 Thread William Rentfrow
We have a VB6 application that launches the Remedy user tool (7.1),
opens a form and submits a value. The section of code for that is as
follows:

Set arSession = New ARUSER.COMAppObj 'Added 3NOV

sessionNumber = arSession.Login(g_sRemUserName, g_sRemUserPassword,
False)

arSession.OpenForm sessionNumber, remedyservername,
remedyformname, ARSubmit, 1

Set arForm = arSession.GetActiveForm

Set arField = arForm.GetFieldById(536870953)

g_sEINFieldName = m_sScreenPopData

arField.Value = g_sEINFieldName

arForm.Submit

If we close the form and reopen it or another form, the session seems to
disconnect and we receive:

ARERR [90] Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System server
: servername : RPC: Rpcbind failure - RPC: Authentication error

The purpose of the application is to automatically populate information
from a phone call into the Remedy form. The agent would work the issue
by searching and modifying information in one or more forms, then close
all the forms at the end of the call and wait for the system to deliver
the next call.

My question is whether the session disconnection is correct given how
the API works or whether this is an actual problem. I would like any
information on handling sessions so that the client can stay open and
the VB program can continue to open new forms in the existing instance
of the user tool.

Thanks

On a browser, Diary field pop up has no ticket number. User unhappy

2009-11-10 Thread Rabi Tripathi
Hi all, when a user has multiple tickets open on a browser and has one or more
Work Log (or any diary field)'s detailed Edit window open, there's nothing on
the window(s) to tell which ticket the Work Log Edit window belongs to.

As was inevitable, a user is unhappy. I want to tell him to not keep more than
one Work Log edit window open at a time, but does anybody have a better
suggestion?

I could do a workaround like add ticket number in the Work Log at the top on
submission. But I think I need to do it with Active Link to have it at the top,
as filters will only append to the content at the end. Won't work for tickets
not submitted with proper clients. And people may have reversed the diary
order...but i could tell them that if they want to see tix number, they keep
the default order. Not a good solution overall.

Has this come up in any environment?

Re: Active link to check entry in table

2009-11-10 Thread Lyle Taylor
Hi Marcelo,

When I say temp field, I think that's just a carry-over from my programming
background (think temporary variable). What I mean is that you would store
the result in a display-only field whose sole purpose in life is to store
temporary results like this. There are probably a number of fields like this
put on the form by BMC (things like z1D Char1, etc.), but I would recommend
adding your own to ensure that you don't interfere with any OOB workflow.

When you create a relationship to a Change record, it creates two records that
represent the relationship. For a CI, one of them will be in AST:CMDB
Associations. The other will be in something like CHG:Associations (or
something similar, I don't currently have Change installed to verify the actual
name). In either form, there are two section that store information about one
record or the other, Entry 1 and Entry 2. Generally, Entry 1 is what the
relationship points 2, and Entry 2 is what the relationship comes from. For
example, in the CHG:Associations form, the Request ID under Entry 2 (Request
ID02) will be the request ID of the Change Record, and the Request ID under
Entry 1 (Request ID01) will point to the other item - in this case, the CI. In
the AST:CMDB Associations form, it will be the other way around: Request ID02
will be the CI, and Request ID01 will be the Change record.

So, to verify if a relationship has been made between the change and a CI, you
simply need to see if there is at least one record in AST:CMDB Associations
where 'Request ID01' = the Change ID. To do the test requires 2 active links -
one to do the look up, and a second to verify the result.

So, you're left with this:

1) Add a new Display Only character field to the Change form and make it hidden
but with Public Change permissions. You can simply make it 15 characters long,
because all it needs to store is a request ID.
2) Create a new active link with Public permissions that fires on Submit/Modify
and performs a set fields action. Note that execution order is important - you
want it to fire before other BMC workflow fires in most cases. The set fields
action will set fields from AST:CMDB Associations where 'Request ID01' =
$Change ID$. (Note that $Change ID$ may not be the correct field name. See
what the real name of the field is and use that.) Now, simply set your new
display-only field to the value of Request ID01. (It doesn't really matter
what you set the field to - all you really care about is that it gets a value
if a record is found. Using Request ID01 is just easy.) Set it so that if
multiple records match, it uses the first record. If no records match, set the
field to NULL.
3) Create a second active link with Public permissions that fires on
Submit/Modify and whose execution order is just after your first active link.
Since you want to display an error if there is no relationship, you want the
active link to fire when your display-only field is $NULL$, which means no
record was matched above. So, the Run If qualification is something like this:
'My Display Only Field' = $NULL$. Then, in your If Actions, you can display
your error message.

Does that make more sense?

Lyle

Lyle, let me know if I'm missing something.
Here are the steps you've suggested
Write an AL that fires when I press relate button on CI Relationships
Search(AST:CI Associations Search) form to do a set fields to a hidden field
on CHG:Infrastructure Change form.
Then I have an AL that reads this field and fires my error based on whether
this field is null.

I do not know how to make it work with temp fields, if you could, please
explain.

Thank you,
Marcelo

I suspect that the field you are checking is a column in the table which will
only have a value if a row has been selected. A better way to do it would
probably be to ignore the table field on the form and do a set fields actions
from the underlying associations form to a temp field on your change form. If
the set fields succeeds, the temp field will have a value which means a CI was
related to the change. If no records were matched, then a CI wasn't related,
and you can throw up your error. The key, then, is just to get the
qualification on the set fields action correct so that you match only CI
relationships and not things like relationships to other changes, problems, etc.

Does that make sense? I can go into more detail if you'd like.

Lyle

I have not worked on these in awhile and it was on 6.3 but I remember that when
I was doing HTML templates for emails in remedy that the only way a value would
display on the HTML template is if the field had public permissions.

So if the field did not have public permissions the value would not show up in

Re: WWRUG 2009

2009-11-10 Thread Doug Blair

Claire...

Hello from between sessions in Las Vegas. Actually, it's lunchtime
here, and I foundf a place where my wireless card works.

Today's MC is Joel Sender - looking pretty spiffy in a tux! This
morning, after a few technical issues which were ably resolved by Phil
Bautista (lead geek) Dan Bloom presented a brief history of AR System
(some of the years were not consecutive) and introduced Doug Mueller.
Doug's talk centered on the theme that IT is finally realizing that
the reason we do all these things is to further the business
objectives of our companies. Most of the businesses where BMC/Remedy
products are running are really not interested in the actual
implementation that IT chooses to support the business activities, not
on the the platform or all those ITIL KPI's - they just want to run
their business. Doug also went into some slight detail about things
that might be present in a future release that will happen sometime
between now and the next Ice Age (no dates, no promises, as is usual
with Doug). Doug also commented on BMC's (firm) decision to retire
the Windows User Tool client AFTER release 8, and encouraged us to
begin making the switch to web users now.

I spent the rest of the morning in one of the Kinetic sessions - it's
pretty impressive stuff - and I plan to catch the what's new and
tutorials later this week as there are some repeats.

One other thing I will pass along is part of a conversation I
overheard last night between two prominent Remedy uber-geeks had to do
with how the 7.5 mid-tier pre-caches form definitions. The fact that
one of these two wasn't sure about it means that it's an obscure
enough point to discuss a bit. The 7.5 mid-tier keeps a cache of
definitions for each unique combination of permissions. That means
that if someone has write access to most of the fields on a form and
another has write access to ALL of the fields on a form, you need two
caches. Each of caches is defined in the pre-cache XSD file on the mid-
tier cache config with a section for a user name that is
representative of that combination of field permissions.

Most people (me included) who set up the new mid-tier see that the
Demo login is present in the XSD file, and you think that this means
that it will pre-cache all the forms needed by Demo, and that if your
login needs one of those forms it will use the copy cached for Demo.
That's NOT the way it works. For YOUR login to benefit from the pre-
cache you need to duplicate that whole section that is Demo's in the
default file, and set it up for a login that has the EXACT same set of
permissions that you do. The mid-tier will build a separate cache for
you and all the logins like yours.

What this means is that you should develop a SMALL NUMBER of
combinations of permissions (e.g. Help Desk plus Change only, help
Desk plus Asset only, help desk plus change plus asset) and make sure
that most of your logins exactly match one of those models. Those
logins will all load the pre-cached copy of the forms, and startup
will appear to be faster for these people.

The pre-cache will be used if the mid-tier server restarts too -
that's the persistent part of the cache.

That's it for now - lunch is ending and there is a LOT more to learn!

More when I have time

Doug

Here is one obvious one that I am sure you did, but the only thing I
can think of: Close all instances of the User Tool that you are logged

Without a restart, the tool does not know that new objects are there.
This would only help you if you had the user tool running while

ARS 7.5 Patch 001 ? or Patch 002? or Patch 003?

2009-11-10 Thread Raj
Hello All,

We have our current test system on ARS 7.5 Patch 001, no issues, very
stable.

Pre-Production on ARS 7.5 Patch 002 , did foundation data uploads, got
ARERR 2 (Undefined Error) and encountering serious server crashes,
(Where we used the same spreadsheets to upload on Test System ARS 7.5
Patch 001 without any problems, now working with BMC Rep to resolve
this issue of server crashes and ARERR 2 on pre-production
system.Might be hardware fault as well, but do see undefined ARERR 2
in the error log files and frequent server crashes.

Now based on these facts we are planning to start a fresh build of
Production System, But kind of confused ?

Since, we experienced our TEST System is stable is on Patch 001 and
Patch 002 unstable in our environment and having issues, and new Patch
available Patch 003, which should I go for, What would be my best
bet ?

Please advise,

Thanks,
