Hi Shirley,

Thank you for sending that information. I was wondering if that was from the
passport log or another document? I'm still learning and a little confused with
all of the various sites so I wanted to be clear. Thank you for your help.

  Syndi,

The 3 pieces for genealogy are a name, a date, a place. The place is usually
the hardest, but you have that. What's the date on the Bell Rock manifest?

Yes, I said the Lds. Org because that's been where I've gone to find a
meetinghouse when I travel. But I just checked the familysearch.org link you
sent and that works great.

I just tried entering a city and state anywhere and Voila! The map showed the
centers and when you hold the cursor over the area you want, the address pops
up. At first I just saw the map and didn't see the search bar at the top.
That's great! Nice shortcut . Thanks, Cheri.

No, the LDS.org site is the part that deals with the religion. To deal
with genealogy and family history, you go to the LDS's genealogy site at
www.familysearch.org.

Since they've redesigned their FamilySearch Web site, I have no idea of how
to navigate to the FHC Locations page. A google search pulled up this:
https://familysearch.org/locations/centerlocator

Every FHC will be open different days and different hours. Mine is open
Monday through Saturday. Others are open only a couple of days a week. So
you will need to check the one nearest you for hours. And if you live in
an area with weather, such as snow, that will affect the operating hours as
well.

Go to LDS.org (the church's website) to locate family history center closest
to you. They're closed on Mondays but usually there will be people there to
answer the phone and help you get started from around 9-3 from Tuesday to
Friday and Saturdays afternoon. They were very helpful to me.

2014-03-21 Thread Aaron Pereira

Here is the passport list from Ponta Delgada: http://goo.gl/3Og2JO
your ancestors are near the bottom of the page.

The emigration notation document can be found here: Câmara Municipal da
Ribeira Grande, MUSEU DA EMIGRAÇÃO AÇORIANA...link:
http://mea.cm-ribeiragrande.pt/?p=p
search tab: Requerimentos séc. XIX

if you find there's a mix up of the document, use the "contact us" tab, and
email them about the document mix up. I had a few that were incorrectly
indexed and I emailed them. They sent me pdf's of the correct documents in
a week or so. I think they have a Francisco Barrela document where your
Manuel should be. What I mean is the link reads Manuel Teixeira, but the
document is not his. Research it a bit more and see what you can come up
with.

These are nice documents to add to your family collection...and they may
give you additional clues. When I initially located one of my ancestors
from the Ponta Delgada passport registration list, is listed her as being
from Ribeira Grande. So, I thought I would either have to wait for the CCA
to post RG records or order the microfilm from LDS, Then one day someone
posted a link to the emigration records.  I found my ancestor's document;
and it listed her as living in Rabo de Peixe but a native of Achada Grande.
>From that information I've worked back as far as I can go with her direct
lineage.

One more link for you: this is actually from the CCA website, it's
information that's found on the passport registration. It's easier if you
search through the advance search tab. All 5 of your ancestor were listed
here: http://www.arquivos.azores.gov.pt/

The only information I have is what my grand uncle had found on his own and the
other information I located from my great grandfather: his name was Jose but
then it changed to Joseph Texeira. His birth date was September 23, 1877 or at
least that's what is own his grave. The only other information about Maria da
Estrella is that she died in April 1927 and was buried at the Kurtistown
Catholic Cemetery but there are no markers. The cemetery has fallen apart.

Thank you for your help.

That would mean he was born about 1843 and married around 1872. Those dates
fall in the dead zone for the records I have. I would start looking at the
marriage records of NS Estrela in Ribeira Grande for the marriage of Manoel and
Maria. The records for Ribeira Grand are not on line yet. In the mean time you
could order the film at the FHC near you but the records when they are put on
line are easier to use than the micro films.

I can definitely say that the marriage is not in Ribeirinha as I have all the
marriages from there.

One other detail was the spelling of our family's surname. It was TEIXEIRA
but along the way it changed to Texeira.

Syndi,

The 3 pieces for genealogy are a name, a date, a place. The place is
usually the hardest, but you have that. What's the date on the Bell Rock
manifest?
