Hi Nam,
I have found that on some websites with drop down menus that I need to
use the JAWS cursor in IE 8 to access the menu. Now then, when I installed
IE 9 the drop down menu could not be found with the JAWS cursor. Other
than

that IE 9 works wonderful with JAWS 13.

[Blind-Computing] IE 8 Issues

2010-07-04 Thread Patricia

Happy 4th to everyone!

I'm experiencing something here has me puzzled..

If I have my facebook page open and then open another site and then do the
alt-tab to go back and forth, there's only one site there.

Is this an IE 8 issue or a jaws update issue? I do not have the very latest
jaws update but the one before that. I seem to remember it being ok as
before updating, but not real sure now. I do know if I have OE open and alt
tab from facebook to that, it's there, but another IE page site is not, so
what am I doing wrong here?

Thanks,

But if you're using IE8, the page may be on another tab. Did you try

Thanks, I will give that a try next time. Yes, I love Tab browsing!
However, I use all four ways to open a link;
Enter or Space to open the link in the same Tab,
Shift + Enter to open in a new browser window,
Control + Enter to open a new Tab in the vackground, and
Control + Shift + Enter to open in a new Tab in the foreground.

Sometimes it is convenient to keep related pages together and sometimes I
like to keep different pages separate.

I tend to use the Quick Tab keystroke, Control + Shift + Q, to bring up a
list of open Tabs, rather than using the Control + Tab hotkey. It is nice
both are available.

Hi Don:

Ctrl+9 will put you back on the page.

This works fine with IE8 (tab browsing enabled) and JAWS11.
It should also work fine with IE7.

I'm not sure if it will work if tab browsing is disabled.

I use the tab browsing feature all the time.
It's very useful to have multiple web sites inside the same window, just
pressing ctrl+tab to switch between them.

I do not know if there is anything you can do about that. I do not know
whether this is a new JAWS feature or a new Microsoft accessibility
feature.

It is supposed to make most of the toolbar areas accessible just by
Tabbing
around after reaching the bottom of the page. It is occasionally nice to
be

able to get to these areas. Most of the time it is just annoying!
Especially since the focus sometimes moves to this area and I get lost.
When this happens, the best way to find my way back to the page is to
press
F6 until it announces it is in the address bar. Then I press Shift + F6,
to

get back to the page. I usually then use Control + Home to get to the top
of the page.

If anyone has found a better way, I would like to know about it.

Just wondering if there are preferred settings etc to make
JAWS most usable with IE 8? One thing I notice when tabbing
around is something called split home screen, many different
tool bars, etc. I have not changed anything but left default
settings. I would prefer simply having the web page present
and less clutter. I don't remember all this clutter with IE
6. Any suggestions folks have found helpful?

Hi Kimsan;

From my understanding you can have many different websites or web pages open
and go from one to another using combination keystrokes that all involve the
tab key. Since I don't use tab browsing personally, perhaps someone will
give a more detailed explanation. Hope this helps. Take care.

Re: [Blind-Computing] IE 8 settings

2010-03-12 Thread Donald Marang
That is pretty much it. It is called Tab browsing since at the top of the
current page there are what appears to the sighted as a file folder tab for
each open page. The sighted normally clicks on the tab they want to view.
Fortunately, Microsoft also included the QuickTab drop down menu and lots of
hotkeys. Experts say it uses less computer resources when many web pages
are open, because the application overhead does not get replicated for each
browser window. Therefore, it might be faster. But most people use and
like it because it keeps things organized and does not clutter up the task
bar and such. Of course, both methods are available. For instance, today I
had one browser window open viewing RSS feeds for news. I use the Control +
Enter key to open new Tabs for each news headline I am interested in. At
the same time I still had a tutorial on Visual Basic.Net with a couple of
pages open. Then my wife walks in and needs to find a local place to get
her roller skates repaired. In our area, almost all of the rinks and
businesses of that type have closed. This is a hard thing to find! I had
three or four possibilities as I searched. Having a separate window for
each topic with several pages per topic, this method is perfect for someone
like me who insists on multitasking!

I do not know if there is anything you can do about that. I
do not know
whether this is a new JAWS feature or a new Microsoft

It is supposed to make most of the toolbar areas accessible
just by Tabbing
around after reaching the bottom of the page. It is
occasionally nice to be
able to get to these areas. Most of the time it is just
annoying!
Especially since the focus sometimes moves to this area and
I get lost.
When this happens, the best way to find my way back to the
page is to press
F6 until it announces it is in the address bar. Then I
press Shift + F6, to
get back to the page. I usually then use Control + Home to
get to the top
of the page.

If anyone has found a better way, I would like to know about
it.

The first thing I did was to go into tools, then options,

Next, in the view menu, I opened the toolbars sub-menu, and
turned off all

I don't care for the internet that much in the first place,

I am using Jaws 6.2, haven't looked at it with versions 10

Re: [Blind-Computing] IE 8 settings

2010-03-11 Thread Donald Marang
Thanks, I will give that a try next time. Yes, I love Tab browsing!
However, I use all four ways to open a link;

If anyone has found a better way, I would like to know about it.

Exactly.
You can also use ctrl+1 through 8 to move to a specific tab.
I find this useful if I have a lot of open tabs.

Ctrl+4 will quickly give me the 4th tab and ctrl+7 the 7th tab etc.
Much faster than ctrl+tab or ctrl+shift+tab.

Thanks, I will give that a try next time. Yes, I love Tab browsing!
However, I use all four ways to open a link;

Hi Al,
I just installed it this morning, on one of my machines.
The first thing I did was to go into tools, then options,
and the general tab, and disable tab-browsing.
Next, in the view menu, I opened the toolbars sub-menu, and turned off all
of the toolbars.

I don't care for the internet that much in the first place,
so I don't need to wade thru all of that clutter either.
I am using Jaws 6.2, haven't looked at it with versions 10 and 11 yet.

It depends. Sorry I can't give a more definitive answer, but some features
of IE 8 work fine with JAWS 9, while others don't. For instance, the JAWS
read Address Bar command, Insert-A, does not work with JAWS 9, although I
understand that it does work with the latest build of JAWS 10. And
depending on which IE add-ons you have enabled, some web pages may not load.
Try it for yourself. If it doesn't work for you, you can easily uninstall
it and revert to IE 7 like I did.

If you're using JAWS 8 or earlier then IE8 won't work for you. I suggest

Hi
Today my IE 7 decided to update to IE 8. I thought it sounded like a
good idea. So, I told it to go ahead. Now it will only run with add ons
disabled and when I bring up my home page (Google) it says I need to press a
button to open parent document. First, how do I turn on add ons in IE 8 and
second, how do I get IE 8 to display the real Google page?

Thank you for your help.

God bless,
Mark

Re: [Blind-Computing] IE 8 and windows XP

2009-06-26 Thread Gerald Levy

I find this verry strange, and some what rediculas.
People are advising others not to do something, when these people
obviously do not have all the right facts.
I have tested IE 8 with Jaws 8, 9, and 10.
IE 8 does work with jaws 8 apart from the menu bars. Those are not read aloud.
Jaws 9, and 10 both work perfectly fine on my Xp, and vista and
Windows 7 machines.

So, for someone to state that IE 8 doesn't even work with jaws 10 is

updated Adobe Flash 10 accessibility. Like I've said before, stick with IE 6
if you have an older version of JAWS. Your bro in Christ,

 Hi
Today my IE 7 decided to update to IE 8. I thought it sounded like a
good idea. So, I told it to go ahead. Now it will only run with add ons
disabled and when I bring up my home page (Google) it says I need to press
 a
button to open parent document. First, how do I turn on add ons in IE 8
 and
second, how do I get IE 8 to display the real Google page?
  Thank you for your help.

I find this verry strange, and some what rediculas.
People are advising others not to do something, when these people
obviously do not have all the right facts.
I have tested IE 8 with Jaws 8, 9, and 10.
IE 8 does work with jaws 8 apart from the menu bars. Those are not read
aloud.
Jaws 9, and 10 both work perfectly fine on my Xp, and vista and
Windows 7 machines.

So, for someone to state that IE 8 doesn't even work with jaws 10 is
completely rediculas.
It is unadvisable for anyone running jaws 8, or earlier to upgrade to
IE 8 do to the lack of menu accessability, but for jaws 9 and 10
users, it works fine.

Hi.

I'm not going to tell you whether or not you should switch. I'll just
tell you why I use fire fox and then you can decide. I really like some
of the add ons like web vissum and another one that lets you create
short cuts on your desk top. Web visum is great though, no more waiting
for someone sighted to help with the capcher. It also seems to be a
little more stable on my system. I also like the feature where you can
set fire fox to open at whatever page you were on when you closed it. I
don't know if IE8 has these features but anyway there you go.

It's the online video hosting site where you can search for video clips like
songs, comedy clips, news features, as well as people uploading video clips
of themselves etc. etc.

It's not the most accessible site in the world, but it's usable:

I always download audio type files, and the only place where I really let
things like that play in the browser are places like YouTube which is
really just embedded flash/shockwave, and that seems to work normally.

I beta tested IE 8 last summer, but discovered that Real Player would not
work with it. I reported the problem to Ms, but don't know if they ever
fixed it because I reverted back to IE 7. Have you encountered any problem
with any non-MS media player like Real Player or Winamp in IE 8?

Hey, I'm using the latest build of Jaws 9.0 with IE 8 and am having no
problems with it at all. It loads webpages like you wouldn't believe,

Well there a few new goodies within IE8 that I might like such as the in
private browsing which Firefox already has. Also, the suggested sites featur
which I've not played with is good. And it has excellerators which I am not
quite sure know how they work. Only minor flaw is that JAWS won't read the

2009-03-19 Thread Jacob Kruger
Ok, FWIW, the download process from that homepage wouldn't work for me, but
when I went here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx

I searched for the word:
internet

on that page, and found the links to versions for various operating systems,
and when I hit enter on the one for my windowx XP version, it took me to the
page where I just hit enter on the download button, and that worked.

Will try it out on my windows XP pro, along with jaws 10, and let you know
how I found it.
