Been about 40 years since I replaced a lower boot on 64 Chevelle 4 spd. Shifter (console). Can't remember how to take reverse lockout apart to get new boot in place. Any help appreciated. John 64 Chevelle SS Work in Progress
[Chevelle-list] Shifter handle isolators
Does anyone know where I can get the two rubber isolators that fit on the studs where you bolt on the Muncie shifter handle? Have tried GM and they no longer show them or even have a part or group number. I would even take some used ones if they are still usable. John

[Chevelle-list] Shifter Replace?
Went to put the shift lever in the tilt column on 72 Monte Carlo and wouldn't go. Have the lever out of a non-tilt column, still looking for the lever out of the tilt column. I thought they were the same lever for tilt and non-tilt. Any ideas as to why it won't go? Have done this numerous times and never run into this problem before. Thanks. D.R. Jones
RE: [Chevelle-list] Shifter HELP
Zeig, I too was talked into going with the A833 that came out of a Chevy Truck from around 81. Has an overdrive 4th gear ratio. Worth a shot at the decent price I had for a budget overdrive. It fits standard GM stuff (with the exception of the bell housing..larger opening), so if it don't work out I'll go with a new Super case M-22 or a Tremec later. The mechanic that talked me into it said a Hurst shifter for a Muncie should bolt right up. I haven't bought the shifter yet to verify. If not, I'll fab something up. I have a welder. Mine is going into a 69 Chevelle. Not sure what the difference would be. Try these links for more info: http://www.yearone.com/updatedsinglepages/Id_info/mopar/mopar%204%20speed%20 trans/4_speedtrans.html http://www.motivegear.com/tech_info/tranny_guide/tranny_guide.html http://home.fuse.net/78CutlassS/trans.htm Steve I just learned the 4 speed linkage is mounted to the crossmember on 72 Chevelles. Does anyone know where the propper placement of the bracket that is available to be welded to the crossmember, or is it easy to figure out when you see it out of the car. I am switching from a M-21 to a New Process A-833 and it does not have the front set of mounting threads as in the muncie case for my current shifter, it just has the rear and the shifter would mount to close to the seat. I have to get the right shifter and linkage set-up for the car then all should work. If anyone has pictures or a link I would be appreciative. Also if anyone has the shifter and linkage I need I would be interested. I have looked at this car in my garage for over 10 years and need to get it done so I can start enjoying it. Thanks for the valuable knowledge gained from this list. ___ Chevelle-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://chevelles.net/mailman/listinfo/chevelle-list_chevelles.net

Re: [Chevelle-List] shifter hump
I'll check my 70 tonite...it is an automatic and the shifter uses a cable that goes thru the "hump". I'll check to see if there is a long slot as you describe. (when I get home tonite). Re: [Chevelle-List] Shifter Problem
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Thanks for all of the help! It is a column shifter, and that little wire/screw combo seems to be what I need to adjust. I tried adjusting it, but I only got it adjusted for drive, L1, L2, - it seems like the thing has been stretched out or something, because it goes from park being correct, to reverse being neutral, neutal being on a blank spot, and drive and up being correct. I should be able to figure it out now that I know where to look. Thanks again for the help! -Bill --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle > Mailing List > > > Bill > > Is it a column shift car, if so there is a small > piece of wire with a small > clip attachedto the steering column with a screw. > The easiest way to get ate > it is to set the parking brake and drop it into 1st > gear, loosen the screw > and slide it either down until it matches the gear, > then tighten up the > screw. Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Bill Is it a column shift car, if so there is a small piece of wire with a small clip attachedto the steering column with a screw. The easiest way to get ate it is to set the parking brake and drop it into 1st gear, loosen the screw and slide it either down until it matches the gear, then tighten up the screw. Keep in mind this is for a column shift car. Hope this Helps Tom - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: [Chevelle-List] Shifter Problem
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Actually, you'll be surprised at how easy this is. Since you didnt say otherwise, I'm assuming you have a column shifter. Drop the little panel under the steering column. It should be 4 screws. Up in there, you'll see what looks like a string that is screwed to the steering column. The other end of it goes to the pointer (and is spring loaded to pull it towards "Park". You should be able to loosen a screw on the column and adjust the pointer's position. It's been a long time since I did this, so I hope I didnt miss any details. -Dave > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Bill Willis > Sent: Wednesday, December 05, 2001 9:13 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [Chevelle-List] Shifter Problem > > > > Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List > > > OK, I've been lurking long enough. > > I have a 72 Malibu, Automatic TH350 trans., > and the shifter is 1 gear off (neutral is reverse, > drive is neutral, etc.). Re: [Chevelle-List] Shifter Problem
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List It sounds to me like you need to adjust the shift rod. This adjustment is just by the steering column in the engine compartment by the firewall. The shifter rod goes through an adjustment swivel. The swivel has a bolt that is used to adjust the shift areas. [Chevelle-List] Shifter Problem
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List OK, I've been lurking long enough. I have a 72 Malibu, Automatic TH350 trans., and the shifter is 1 gear off (neutral is reverse, drive is neutral, etc.). Can someone point me to information on how to correct this? Is this a hard thing to fix? It's not a BIG deal, just annoying, and it has the potential of being dangerous. I don't know a whole lot about cars, but I'm not afraid of trial and error. Thanks in advance for any help. I've only been reading the posts for about 3 weeks and I have learned a LOT. Bill __ Do You Yahoo!?
