Current (daily) cooker install. After an update this mornin (15:20 GMT), which involved these kde updates, Konqueror web browser would not start. From a terminal, konqueror file manager would run normally, the web browser would not. The fm would also not function as a web browser. Never got as far as an error mesg in the term, just froze up. I --forced these kde rc6 rpms back in from my beta2 CD's and now konqueror is fine again. I put /kde*.mdk/ in skip.list. Hopefully that's the right syntax. -- Tom Brinkman Corpus Christi, Texas

[Cooker] kdebase-3.1-0.beta2.13mdk and desktop background image
Hello, I just stumbled upon a small bug. As of the 13th rev of this kdebase, I can no longer set a desktop background image. Every time I try, the background gets changed back to /usr/share/mdk/backgrounds/default.png. I created a new user and logged in and had the same trouble (so it's not the old config files) and I tried it on a different computer and the same thing happened. -Elliott

It appears that /usr/bin/startkde is scanning for netscape plugins at each startup even if you have it checked off in the kdecontrol panel. [Cooker] kdebase - apps/kdm/pics/users and non-root build
Currently kdebase.spec does some nasty trick by linking buildroot faces -> /usr/share/faces and then linking apps/kdm/pics/users -> ../../../faces. This seems to fail for non-root (due to some obscure "symlink-relativisation" problem). Anyway, I tried to comment out this: #cd %buildroot/%_datadir #ln -s /usr/share/faces ./faces # Link KDM images directory to faces directory rm -fr %buildroot/%_datadir/apps/kdm/pics/users/ ( cd %buildroot/%_datadir/apps/kdm/pics ln -s ../../../faces/ ./users ) and it appears RPM now does not care about dangling link and correctly includes apps/kdm/pics/users even when destination does not exist. So it appears you do not need this trick, at least on cooker. This also allows clean non-root build as far as I can tell. -andrej

Cooker's KDE is based on libpng3, not the libpng2 that comes with Mandrake 8.1. Install the libpng3 RPM from Cooker, and then run the following as root: # cd /usr/lib # rm -f libpng.so.2 # ln -s libpng.so.3 libpng.so.2 Restart X. I have found that from time to time Mandrake 8.1 chooses to automagically switch /usr/lib/libpng.so.2 to point back to /usr/lib/libpng.so.2.1.0.12, forcing me to fix it as above. Re: [Cooker] kdebase 1:2.2.2-19mdk = HELP WHERE ARE MY ICONS.
yes they sure are there. I tried to post the directory listing but got a e-mail back from sympa saying something about a 'no-no' word.. There sure are icons under there so that is not a problem. Maybe someone from Mandrake can check this one out. /MattB On Sat, 2002-01-12 at 11:39, Tony Clark wrote: > Hmm...got me beat...sure the icon files are still there...should be somewhere > /usr/share/icons/hicolor I think > > On Saturday 12 January 2002 06:24 pm, you wrote: > > I tried putting those lines in /etc/profile but it still doesn't work. > > > > the 'set' command shows that it has been exported but the icons still > > don't show. > > > > /MattB >

Another note.. It does show the Mandrake Icon's but not the KDE icons. /MattB
Re: [Cooker] kdebase 1:2.2.2-19mdk = HELP WHERE ARE MY ICONS.
I tried putting those lines in /etc/profile but it still doesn't work. the 'set' command shows that it has been exported but the icons still don't show. /MattB

Well the subject says it all. I upgraded the kdebase and kdebase-devel 2.2.2-19mdk and it appears to be broken. I have all core KDE packages to do and we convert to a new menu system. I did 85+% of the job (ie converted everything), but the 15% left are: fix typos. And there are many :( -- fg # rm *;o o: command not found
Re: [Cooker] kdebase
Hi, since some patchlevels I missing the kappfinder which was included in kdebase previously (kdebase2 still have it). Maybe I have overlooked something in the changelog, so please correct me. My biggest prob is during update of cooker packages the KDE-menu changed more and more. Most of the apps are gone away from the menu . In the past I only had to run the kappfinder and all works well again. I tryed also the install-menu or update-menu but it is incompatible with prev. versions of KDE-menu or maybe too buggy. I don't want install the whole Mandrake each time it was changed only to get an complete usermenu, also I don't want edit all that stuff manuall. So maybe I been wrong and don't understand the new or changed concept but I found no docu. How to generate a complete standard menu (If I create a new user - the KDE-menu is also incomplete ). Any info about this or any hints ? Thanks Udo
[Cooker] kdebase and kmp3 conflict
This conflict has been in cooker for decades ... [root@fulgore:/var/spool/autorpm]# rpm -Uvh kdebase-1.1.2-37mdk.i586.rpm file /usr/share/mimelnk/audio/x-mp3.kdelnk from install of kdebase-1.1.2-37mdk conflicts with file from package kmp3-1.0pre3-2mdk [root@fulgore:/var/spool/autorpm]# -- Eugenio Diaz, BSEE/BSCE Linux Engineer [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Cooker] kdebase and Mesa
This could be my own config problem, anyways, when compiling the kdebase-1.1.2-30mdk.src.rpm, the morph3d screensaver fails to build because it is unable to find the headers to Mesa which are installed in /usr/X11R6/include and not /usr/include. My immediate fix, for building purposes, was to symlink the GL include directories, but this should probably be added to the spec. Other GL screensavers are likely to have that problem. On the topic of screensavers, xscreensaver-3.18-3mdk.src.rpm had difficulties configuring until libGL.so.1.2.0 was symlinked to libGL.so (and too with the libGLU.so.3.1.2 library). It found the GL headers, but failed to pick up the library. Correct me if I am wrong, but should not ldconfig create the symlinks? John P.S. I hope nobody minds the compile bug reports. I'm building the source distributions for the K6 and so I'm finding these as I go through that process.

There will be updated kmpg and kmp3 rpms appearing later this morning.
