Yes it's a script that gives only the up to date sites to users. Each
time we announce a new release, people want to have it at once and we
have to give an list of full up to date FTP mirrors.

FYI the aarnet mirror is limited to austalian users so we have to check
it manualy in touch with its FTPadmin.

I think it's a script who try alwauys to probe the outdated

Already done! The Australian mirror now heads the list on your web

But aaarnet (in Brisbane) was an official mirror for 7.0, and
appeared in your web page list. Why was it dropped without any
notification to the public or even to the aarnet administration?

... sorry in advance for bothering you again with this ... but what's exactly
the difference between Hydrogen-Beta3-Install-ISO and the
Mandrake-Final-ISO. The latter one is by size bigger (ftp.free.fr) and by date
created earlier than the first one -- so there must be some differences.

(By the way: the most stable version I tried on my machine is what I created
from cooker on Sun 21. May taking off the wrong ldconfig-RPM from May 19)

the pb is that rpmlib doesn't tell so. Or at least i have to scan the
install.log to know that. I've already added this:

die _("Some important packages didn't get installed properly.
Either your cdrom drive or your cdrom is defective.
Check the cdrom on an installed computer using \"rpm -qpl Mandrake/RPMS/*.rpm\"
") if grep { m|read failed: Input/output error| }
cat_("$o->{prefix}/root/install.log");

could you give the install.log you got?

Pixel, I know you are a coder (and a very good one, might I say).
Metaphorically shot only, of course. But there is a valuable
message in there, isn't there? If your rpm calls find a bad rpm,
the return value should indicate that fact to you (don't know whether
it does), and you should never just ignore such a situation.

On the second CD, run:

rpm -qi -p * 2>rpm.log

and you will see that most RPMs on the second CD are bad.

Apparently the installer just does not bother installing bad RPMs,
with no message or log entry?

The coder should be taken outside and shot, as should Mandrake QA.

All the rpms that start from about h on on the extension CD are bad (
rpm doesn't see them as rpm's).

I am using beta 3 from free.fr I had no problems installing even from the
EXT CD. I installed from both CDs.

Is there a problem with TAR in beta 3? I always try to find RPMs for
software that I want. Ok, call me lazy. I have been trying to install the
BTTV drivers, but keep getting errors like 'this appears to not be TAR file'
on every file I try.

Riyadit would appear that unlike past releases, they are
holding off on putting the release iso's on the mirror sites
till the retail boxed sets are in place in the retailer's
stores. So, when the retail stuff is all in place then
they'll put the iso's on the mirrors and announce the
release. Sounds like good sound marketing to me (if I'm
correct). :-)

Hmm.

But I still cannot work with X 3.3.6 immediately after installation, it
misses some libraries. Last try was yesterday. I wouldn't consider it as
final in any sense.

Having not used the ISO's through the testing process, I must ask. Is
the ext cd image still broken? The date on it is 05/16 which strikes
me as being before the reported problems with it.

I think the fact that there has been no official announcement seems odd. That
and considering the fact that the word "beta" is in there- it may scare off a
