Bug#1071498: libquotient0.8: dependencies on dev packages should be in libquotient-dev

2024-05-20 Thread Michal Politowski

According to changelog:

libquotient (0.7.1-2) experimental; urgency=medium

  ▒
  * debian/control: add dependency on libolm-dev libssl-dev for dev package

  ▒

But actually these dependencies are added in libquotient0.8 not in

I can also confirm that setting LogLevelMax=info stops the flooding.
If you don't want to override upstream by default here, then please
at least make note of it in README.Debian.
Although I would say that flooding syslog with _debug_ messages is
something that should be overriden by the distribution if necessary.

Bug#945824: [python3-numpy] Depends on python3.8 and python3.7

2020-10-15 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: python3-numpy
Version: 1:1.19.2-2+b1
Followup-For: Bug #945824

If the extra dependencies are there only because of scripts that
* likely will be of no interest to most people installing python3-numpy as
  a dependency of some application,
* and moreover will be, as far as I understand, useless anyway without
installing
other packages that python3-numpy only suggests,
then I really wonder why these dependencies are not suggestions as well.

2020-06-21 Thread Michal Politowski

I am pretty sure that the problem is caused by the commit
6906c131d1d07d07831f8fbabae6290a3cba6ca3
(Use a monotonic clock, if available, for ID generation).
The change contains measuring of the difference between CLOCK_MONOTONIC and
realtime once
at startup (exim_clock_init), but as far as I understand CLOCK_MONOTONIC
on Linux does not increase during suspend/hibernate (possibly wrognly [1]),
so the difference grows then, unaccounted for.

after clicking 'Log Out' (before I was even given the chance to log in).

No weston to purge, unfortunately.

2014-06-04 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: cups-daemon

The package contains /etc/pam.d/cups-daemon, but when an user selects a
privileged operation in the web UI the daemon actually tries to access

I hit it hard because I have /etc/pam.d/other set to deny, but anyone
trying to modify /etc/pam.d/cups-daemon is going to be scratching their

Bug#718401: gnome: panel does not adapt to screen resolution change

2013-09-26 Thread Michal Politowski
Followup-For: Bug #718401

Unfortunately even the 'pkill gnome-panel' workaround seems to work only
once for me.
The second pkill causes a 'something has gone wrong, please logout' message.

The same problem can be observed without fiddling with plugs by switching
the primary display with xrandr.

xrandr --output LVDS1 --primary
and the right-hand side of the panel is not visible on the laptop screen
(and additionally http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=605437
or something equivalent).
pkill gnome-panel; xrandr --output HDMI1 --primary
and the panel takes only part of the external monitor, with a gray strip to
the right of it.
pkill again and you have to logout.

Bug#666270: liferea: search for unread unflagged items misbehaves after upgrade

2012-03-30 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: liferea
Version: 1.8.3-0.1
Severity: normal

I had a search folder that worked in 1.6.5 and before.
It was supposed to contain unread unflagged items.

.liferea_1.6/feedlist.opml
  outline title=Nieprzeczytane text=Nieprzeczytane
description=Nieprzeczytane type=vfolder id=jccorka sortColumn=time
viewMode=0 matchType=any collapsed=true
outline type=rule text=Flaga przeczytania rule=unread value=
additive=true/
outline type=rule text=Flaga statusu rule=flagged value=
additive=false/
  /outline

.liferea_1.6/liferea.db
CREATE VIEW view_jccorka AS SELECT items.ROWID AS item_id,items.read AS
item_read FROM items WHERE ((items.read = 0) AND NOT(items.marked = 1)) AND
items.comment != 1;

The matchType=any in the feedlist looks suspicious but the view seems
correct, and it worked.

Anyway this is probably somewhat irrelevant, since when after the upgrade to
1.8.3 it started to act weird
I deleted it and recreated fresh. It changed .liferea_1.8/feedlist.opml to

  outline title=Nieprzeczytane text=Nieprzeczytane
description=Nieprzeczytane type=vfolder id=vkkakeu sortColumn=time
viewMode=0 matchType=all collapsed=true
outline type=rule text=Read status rule=unread value=
additive=true/
outline type=rule text=Flag status rule=flagged value=
additive=false/
  /outline

The matchType changed to the more expected all (I also set LC_MESSAGES=C
before running liferea, that's what I suppose changed the text attributes),
liferea.db seems to not have views anymore so nothing to see here.

But the behavior of the newly created folder in 1.8.3 is still extremely
problematic:
* it started empty,
* stayed empty after Rebuild from context menu (even though there were unread
unflagged items in my feeds),
* filled after Update All, but the count in parens after the folder name is
'(1)' even though the status bar says '(18 new)'
and the folder contains even more items,
* well, actually it contained more items for a short moment; after selecting
another feed and going immediately back
to the search folder, now only one item is visible,
* until Rebuild, which caused even this one item to disappear (the count in
feed list stays firmly on '(1)')
* after another Update All there are again many items in the search folder,
(feedlist counter: '(0)')
* switch to another folder, go back, lather, rinse, repeat.

OK. I hoped that the maintainers would forward it to the right place, but if
not,
I will try to do it later.

On a side note, do think bug #666267 your reported earlier is a
 complete different bug?

No idea yet. Might not be but I do not know how to verify it easily. Will think

Bug#654305: yaret: thinks that external commands fail when they don't

2012-01-02 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: yaret
Version: 2.1.0-5

yaret dies on editor execution (and when editor execution is modified, on
other command execution) with indication that $? is -1, even though the
commands work.

I'm not exactly Perl-literate but the attached change (using a different
variable in place of $?) seems to help.

perldoc -v '$?' warns that
If you have installed a signal handler for SIGCHLD, the value of $? will
usually be wrong
  outside that handler.
and yaret uses such handler.

I've been using yaret successfully before but maybe something in perl 5.14
caused the problem to be visible?

Bug#651051: emacs23: display corruption

2011-12-05 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: emacs23
Version: 23.3+1-4
Severity: important

Example screenshot - after starting emacs and switching to info:
http://charybda.icm.edu.pl/~mpol/emacs.png

Today I noticed that my emacs display gets corrupted in at least the following
ways:

1. When switching modes (or eg. switching info nodes) lots of old content
remains on screen
(see the linked screnshot).
Resizing the window refreshes the content so that it displays correctly until
the next corruption.

2. The cursor location is represented just by the letter under cursor blinking
to a lighter
color (except when the emacs window is not focused - then the hollow frame
cursor is visible).

The same problem happens on different user accounts at least under Gnome
fallback mode
and under awesome WM, both for emacs23 and emacs23-lucid.

Yeah, I see. A case for a trigger?
Or there is a dependency in the other direction, so maybe
a link could be managed relatively simply via the -source

2011-10-18 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: openjdk-6-jdk
Version: 6b23~pre10-1
Severity: normal

With the split of /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk into java-6-openjdk-common
and java-6-openjdk-i386 or similar
Eclipse (3.7 here, not from package) can no longer automatically connect the
sources in java-6-openjdk-common/src.zip to the JDK instance in
java-6-openjdk-i386

Adding a link from java-6-openjdk-i386/src.zip to
java-6-openjdk-common/src.zip makes Eclipse notice the connection again
and attach the sources to standard library classes.

Bug#580748: gimp-plugin-registry: unexplained change in dependencies

2010-05-08 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: gimp-plugin-registry
Version: 3.1-1

gimp-plugin-registry 2.3-1 depends on
 libblas3gf | libblas.so.3gf | libatlas3gf-base
and
 liblapack3gf | liblapack.so.3gf | libatlas3gf-base
version 3.1-1 changed it to only libatlas3gf-base
without any explanation (at least I didn't find any in the Debian
changelog).

I believe one could want to use any of the other CPU-specific
versions of libatlas3gf (or maybe libblas3gf) instead of the -base variant.
I do not really know anything about (in)compatibilities between these
versions and maybe it is actually impossible, but then it would be good
to explain the dependency change at least in the changelog/README.
There are only about a dozen other packages that limit their dependencies
in this way out of a couple hundred depending on libatlas3gf-base at all.

Bug#572971: upgrade fails if mongodb not currently started

 Hi Michal,

could you please check the file /etc/init.d/mongodb ? I am suspicious
 that it will be symlink:

 mongodb - /lib/init/upstart-job

This is caused by the incorrect implementation of upstart / upgrade path
 from the upstart script.

Please remove the file and reinstall the package. It should solve your
 problem.

Yes, /etc/init.d/mongodb is indeed a link to /lib/init/upstart-job
(actually, I wrote about modifying it in the prevoius mail).
and removing it lets me remove mongodb.
After reinstalling 1.2.2-1 the problem of course repeats.
1.2.4-1 installs and removes correctly, even when mongodb is stopped.

Now that iceweasel 3.5 is in unstable it would be really very good
to have an updated scrapbook there too.

Also, too bad the dependencies of iceweasel-scrapbook
aren't tighter. Would it be possible to use version declarations
from the extension's install.rdf to automatically provide
an upper version number limit in the package dependency on iceweasel?

 Hi

Could I have you either test 3.4.1-1 and determine if it is still
present or tell me how to trigger it - like which help sections to look at.

It seems that the part of the documentation where this bug was found
is no longer present in 3.4.1-1 at all.
There is no Platform Plug-in Developer Guide in the help menu
and no available plugin named org.eclipse.platform.doc.isv.

The bug was found in the documentation corresponding to what
is available here for 3.4:
http://help.eclipse.org/ganymede/topic/org.eclipse.platform.doc.isv/reference/api/overview-summary.html
And this is apparently unavailable in the current Debian packages,
so in a way the bug is no longer present in 3.4.1-1.

Bug#545473: dpkg thinks bacula has been completely replaced

2009-09-07 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: bacula
Version: 3.0.2-3
Severity: normal

During each package installation dpkg prints
(Noting disappearance of bacula, which has been completely replaced.)
and after that the package is indeed no longer installed, so all the
automatically installed dependencies (ie. the whole bacula system)
are marked for removal.

I suppose it has to be related to the fact that the only file in the
package (/usr/share/doc/bacula) is also in the package bacula-common.
I don't know if such a situation is unsuppoted by design
and so a bug in bacula, or if it is a bug in dpkg.

Bug#545313: bacula: upgrade tries to replace a directory with a symlink

2009-09-06 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: bacula
Version: 3.0.2-3
Severity: normal

Upgrade from 2.4.4-1 tries to replace the /usr/share/doc/bacula
directory with a symlink, apparently just by having it as a symlink in the
new package, without any other preparations.
As policy 6.6 says:
A directory will never be replaced by a symbolic link to a directory or
vice versa; instead,
the existing state (symlink or not) will be left alone and dpkg will
follow the symlink if
   there is one.
The end result after the upgrade is an empty directory instead of a symlink.

As for the severity, I went by the definition provided by reportbug.
It seems somewhat different than the current definition used by the release

but still 5g from http://release.debian.org/squeeze/rc_policy.txt

* Add Conflicts with swap-cwm. Closes: #529044.

This is not a solution, these two programs do very different things
and it should be possible to have both of them installed at the same time.

As per the policy, renaming of one of the binaries is what should be done:
Two different packages must not install programs with different
functionality but with the
same filenames. (The case of two programs having the same functionality but
different
implementations is handled via alternatives or the Conflicts mechanism.
See Maintainer
Scripts, Section 3.9 and Conflicting binary packages - Conflicts, Section
7.4 respectively.)
If this case happens, one of the programs must be renamed. The maintainers
should report this
to the debian-devel mailing list and try to find a consensus about which
program will have to
be renamed. If a consensus cannot be reached, both programs must be renamed.

Bug#524993: gnome-do-plugins: directly only suggests evolution, indirectly pulls it in

2009-04-21 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: gnome-do-plugins
Version: 0.8.1.3+dfsg-1
Severity: wishlist

Even though gnome-do-plugins only suggests evolution, actually it depends on
it transitively as it depends on libevolution5.0-cil which depends
on evolution which wants to pull in around 80MB of new packages.

Maybe it would be appropriate to reassign this wish to libevolution5.0-cil
but one way or another it would be nice if the weakest link in the dependency
chain
between gnome-do-plugins and evolution were not stronger than Recommends.

Well, resyncing with the current POT file, it seems that the file you
worked on was outdated. Maybe my fault when I sent it to you?

Nope, looks like my mistake. I wonder how it happened.
Anyway, here is the update.

Bug#483464: aptitude: section descriptions are not translated to the locale encoding

2008-09-01 Thread Michal Politowski
On Mon, 1 Sep 2008 07:11:16 -0700, Daniel Burrows wrote:
On Wed, May 28, 2008 at 10:43:23PM +0200, Michal Politowski [EMAIL
 PROTECTED] was heard to say:
In the pl_PL locale with the ISO-8859-2 encoding, the package sections
descriptions from aptitude-defaults.pl are not translated to the locale
encoding but the utf-8 strings are displayed as is, which produces
  unreadable descriptions.

Do you get this only in the section descriptions? I can't speak
Polish, but when I attempt to run aptitude in ISO-8859-2 I see some odd
artifacts elsewhere in the program, such as 1/4 appearing in menu
titles. See the attached screen shot, for instance.

It looks like Jarek Kaminski was faster than me with the answer, and he is
right.
With ISO-8859-2 fonts installed, menus etc. look as they should,
but the section descriptions display as if they were not recoded from UTF-8,
exactly as on his sid screenshot.
