Iceweasel et Thunderbird avec deux dictionnaires

2012-09-27 Thread maderios

Bonjour

# apt-get install libc6 --reinstall

# apt-get install iceweasel
# apt-get install icedove
# apt-get install iceowl

de lenguaje, quedándome todo en inglés. Pero testing... es testing;

Si te animás, te digo paso a paso cómo hacerlo.

Hmm.. slog mig (aj!) just en tanke.

outras portas.

I downloaded the debian iso file to my desktop and installed the

 typing the correct path.

Hello Wally,

You don't tell us what errors you get (if any), so it's a little
difficult to say what you're doing wrong (for example, you might be
doing things right, but not understanding the output).

You say you've copied md5sum.exe to your %WINDIR%\system32 folder, so it
should be in your path now. CD to the folder where your ISO and MD5
files are, then type md5sum -c Somefile.md5 (without the quotes). The
MD5 file will contain the name of the file to check (the ISO) and the
expected MD5.

That depends on WHY he's wanting to verify it. Either he's checking to
see that the download is complete and correct or he's checking that
what's he's downloaded is what Debian provided. It's entirely possible
for someone to upload a malicious ISO that runs correctly, yet installs
a backdoor (see, for example, the recent news about phpMyAdmin).

Other than the fonts (they *are* different), I see little difference between

Discern which font is used on Ubuntu and use that font on Debian. That should
fix the inter-line spacing and the often indecipherable glyphs.

If so, simply compare the sum with sum from the http links without

  Hi Ralf,

Yes I do have software on windows called winmd5sum that does all
this automatically using a different process. The Cd Burner method you
mention is also another way. I will look into that. Also I discovered
there are many different ways to verify that a downloaded file is
error free. Using the program md5sum.exe is just one of many different
methods using the command line. I simply wanted to learn this
  particular method, that's all.

Here is what I did

- Download a program to check MD5SUM on Windows:
http://www.pc-tools.net/win32/md5sums/

- I extracted the zip file into c:\md5sum on my system.

- I downloaded a netinstall image from
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/6.0.5/i386/iso-cd/

  debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso

- Also there was a file called MD5SUMS.txt, I download that also.
Both the iso and MD5SUMS.txt file are in my download directory.
(In this case c:\Users\testusr\Downloads)

- I ran md5sum.exe on the ISO:
c:\md5sum\md5sum.exe -u c:\Users\testusr\Downloads\debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso

Note: I used the -u flag, this tells md5sum.exe to mimic the output of
the UNIX md5sum command, which was used to create MD5SUMS.txt.

OUTPUT:
C:\Users\testusr\Downloadsc:\md5sum\md5sums.exe -u
c:\Users\testusr\Downloads\debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso
bdf926d604258ce17dfba0b5ef067f17 *debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso

- I opened a notepad session, cutting and pasting the output of the
md5sum command into a new session.

- I then opened the MD5SUMS.txt file in a seperated notepad session and
looked for the debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso line:

bdf926d604258ce17dfba0b5ef067f17 debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso

-I cut and pasted that line directly under the output of the md5sum command
I had put into the notepad session previously, getting the following
file:

bdf926d604258ce17dfba0b5ef067f17 *debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso
bdf926d604258ce17dfba0b5ef067f17 debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso

Hence, I can verify that ISO and come to the conclusion that this
is pretty darn complicated on Windows.

To double check my work, I verified on my Debian system:

mek@kuip:tmp- md5sum -c MD5SUMS.txt 21 | grep netinst
debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso: OK

Hope that helps.

grub2.00-7 from experimental

2012-09-27 Thread Valery Mamonov
Hello all.

I'm using mixed unstable/experimental system.

$ uname -a
Linux vmamonov 3.5.0-4.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64 #1 ZEN SMP PREEMPT Sun Sep 16
23:41:08 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Some days ago I had updated grub2 packages to 2.00-7 version.
Now I have such situation:

# update-grub
GRUB = 2.00 has been unpacked but not yet configured.
grub-mkconfig will not work until the upgrade is complete.
It should run later as part of configuring the new GRUB packages.

# grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
GRUB = 2.00 has been unpacked but not yet configured.
grub-mkconfig will not work until the upgrade is complete.
It should run later as part of configuring the new GRUB packages.

What must I do to resolve problem, except reverting grub2 to 1.99-23 from
unstable?

Hi Mat

Yes I am also using Firefox. I did the procedure you described in
regards to downloading the MD5SUM.txt file. It worked. In windows 7 I
don't have to type the file extension (,txt) as it defaults to .txt in

Still working your recommended procedure. Yes, probably is a lot
easier in Debian :)

 Hi Matt,

I very much appreciate the extremely detailed walk-thru you put
together. Just amazing! I most certainly appreciate all the effort. I
never noticed and consequently never downloaded the file called,
MD5SUMS.txt. That is my problem. I'll go back and look for it. I
downloaded the iso file only (debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso).

Where did you find the file MD5SUMS.txt ? I went to the link you
provided and looked at the first file listed which is simply called
MD5SUMS. It open as a text file listing many hashes. There was nothing
to download. I just copied the hash that relates to the debian iso
 file (debian-6.0.5-i386-netinst.iso).

I was using Firefox on my Windows system. I right clicked on the
MD5SUMS file and went to 'Save Link As'. It saved the file as
MD5SUMS.txt (Note, I may have typed the .txt extension myself
in the Save As dialog box. I tend to make sure I assigned
extensions to files when I same them on Windows systems).

Since you were taking the time to verify the ISO image and it
can be rather tedious to do so on Windows -- at least in my
experience -- I figured I would take the time to help you out.

Glad you found it useful and hope your experience with Debian
 works out for you.

Re: A DVDtoMKV package.

On 2012-09-26 13:40, Sthu Deus wrote:

For some time before I did use handbrake-gtk from DMO, but since
recently it ceased working - just keeps crashing and also I would
remove the repo - in favor of the official repo.s.

I have been working (since mid April, IIRC) on porting handbrake to Debian
proper (not DMO) and it should be available in Debian soon:

http://ftp-master.debian.org/new/handbrake_0.9.8-1~19.gbpc8b9ba.html

Unfortunately, for *license* incompatibility reasons alone, what was uploaded
had to have some features of handbrake disabled:

* we use the AAC encoding from vo-aacenc via libav, not from faac (faac is not
free)---depending on your needs, you may not even notice much difference, but if
you need more channels than stereo (e.g., 4.0, 5.1 or higher), this won't be
currently possible.

* we generate only mkv files, not mp4, because mp4v2, the library used for
wrapping the audio, video, subtitle contents etc. *is* free, but its license
essentially forbids linking to other GPL-licensed software.

We (the official Debian multimedia team) advise against using DMO, as the
packages from that repository can cause serious conflicts and bugs that are hard
to reproduce with the rest of a Debian-provided system.

Also, one should generally not need to install packages from there, since the
new debian releases will have full-fledged multimedia codecs, like MP3 (lame),
MP4 ASP (xvid), and MP4 AVC (x264). And this is tightly and neatly integrated
with other Debian packages like gstreamer, mplayer, mplayer2, libav/ffmpeg,
audacity and so on.

No. That is the point of this thread. The marketing name Intel 64,
also known as EM64T *is* AMD64 aka x86-64. All modern Intel
Pentiums, Core series, and Xeons are x86-64. It is called AMD64 in
Debian because AMD invented that extension to x86; Intel copied it
when it turned out to be so successful.

IA64 (Intel Architecture 64, named long before the marketing name
Intel 64 for x86-64) is the Itanium processor and is about as
different from anything x86 as it is possible to be. It is a VLIW
architecture, very unlike traditional CISC (x86, PDP-11, VAX, Moto
68k) or RISC (ARM, MIPS, POWER, SPARC). Itanium is a very expensive
chip that is used in very expensive servers and mainframe-type
computers. It is/was meant to compete with high-end modern SPARCs and
IBM POWER, and to some extent IBM zSeries/System Z, and it was a
replacement for HP's PA-RISC.

You install software from experimental. You even install a bootloader (!)
package from experimental. But you do not know how to configure a package
or do not know that above error message refers to configuring a package?

I recommend to learn package management basics before using *any* package
from experimental. Heck, I´d even stay away from unstable, before I knew a
bit more about package management. (Although unstable is IMHO quite tame
at the moment.)

What did you expect to gain from installing grub 2.00 anyway?

I omit answer to your question as Tom already gave it.

Two cronjobs for apticron?

2012-09-27 Thread Stephan Seitz

Hi!

System: Debian Squeeze

After the installation of apticron I noticed I have two cronjobs.
One belongs to the package and is installed in /etc/cron.daily. It calls
apticron without options.
The other one is created by the postinst script in /etc/cron.d with
a random start time. It calls apticron with the -cron option which
creates a status file in /var, so that apticron only runs once a day.

Since the first cronjob calls apticron without an option, apticron will
run twice a day. Does anyone know the reason for this behaviour?

Greetings,

Stephan

Why does your system have a non-standard kernel? Are any other non

My recommendation from the other post still applies ;).

With some luck you should be able to downgrade to older grub-pc:

apt-get install grub-pc=1.99-23

or something like that. But that might not work in the current state your
grub-pc package is in.

Now, lets test whether this new grub2 boots ;). (GRML USB-Stick in reach.)

With a non-standard kernel. Thats no official Debian kernel.

Yes, I know. Never experienced any problem with it.

What must I do to resolve problem, except reverting grub2 to 1.99-23
  from unstable?

You install software from experimental. You even install a bootloader (!)
package from experimental. But you do not know how to configure a package
or do not know that above error message refers to configuring a package?

I recommend to learn package management basics before using *any* package
from experimental. Heck, I´d even stay away from unstable, before I knew a
bit more about package management. (Although unstable is IMHO quite tame
 at the moment.)

What did you expect to gain from installing grub 2.00 anyway?

I omit answer to your question as Tom already gave it.

If you still have problems please post output of the dpkg / apt-get
 command you tried.

 Thanks,

Well, I know about experimental repository and unstability of packages
within it. But my Debian system is working over 3 years, and i've decided
all problems i've faced with. Usually I use google for this, but couldn't
find anything about my issue, that's because i've decided to ask some help
in debian-user.

Reinstalling lost packages using /var/lib/dpkg/status-old

2012-09-27 Thread lars nooden
If a bunch of packages have been uninstalled, what is an automated way
of reinstalling them using /var/lib/dpkg/status-old or
/var/backups/dpkg.status.* ?

I see a lot of material mentioning status but nothing about precisely
how to use it.

Regards,
/Lars

reply off list. That makes it personal. And this is exactly why I
never do such a thing--because it's *never* personal.

Interesting approach.

I do it the other way round: I discarded many e-mails I had already
written after asking myself whether I would write the same to the
person privately, instead of on-list. If I feel uneasy about being harsh
in private, I don't do it in public.

Clicking the little red headphone-with-emanating-sound-waves brings up
this message:

You must install the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin.

Click here to download and install the plugin.

Or click here to view the content directly in your Windows Media
Player.

Clicking the second link invokes gecko-mediaplayer with a normal stream
url.

Yes that works, it creates a plugin-container running gmplayer. It
doesn't play a video, though.

Have you ever used Clive? Install the clive package, and see if you can
successfully download videos from YouTube or other sites that use Flash
to display video. Clive captures video directly by downloading the
stream to itself and saves it as an ordinary video file, which can be
played by any number of media players. It doesn't use wget (as far as I
know), and it doesn't require Flash. All it usually needs is a URL. It
is a command line program. It has a few options, such as

--format best

which may be helpful.

$man clive

tells you how to run it.

Also look at abby and cclive.

Try:

$clive -f best http://vimeo.com/24972836;
