Hi, my name is Daniel Fernando Zamadei, I am a brazilian IT student and i would
like to make my studies more interesting using what i am learning with
something cool and usefull, helping and being an volunteer in open source
programs.Now a days, I know C, and a just a little of Front-End.

Hi!

2015-08-04 Thread jeffrey crowder
First off I'm completely new to the developer world but am wanting to try
and make my program I'm working on the best as possible and I was
wondering, if or how I could add OpenOffice to my program. My program (I
suppose they are called applications now days) is a web browser the point
of my project is to have a fast browser but have it work on speeds
equivalent to 2G data speeds. Why? Because when it's storming and/or a
emergency occurs you need to be able to communicate. And what's the most
common why of communication? The web(internet). So that's why I created my
project (formally BeffsChromeProject) Beff's Browser! Of course I barely
know what I'm doing or if I can manage to get it to do my goal right now
I'm just trying to get info and learn, but one thing I did think was, how
useful would a document opened in the browser while you're working on a
school assignment, or work or some other project? Anyhow without even
really thinking about it I started my project and now it is simply more or
less just a open-source web browser. I'm unsure if I am able to use
OpenOffice as you are under the Apache license, I am under the Mozilla
Public License version 2.0, the reason being is (only fitting) that my
project/program is a web browser. I start back to school tomorrow (high
school!), yes I'm sure you may think I'm too young to get involved or
you won't but, hey I sortta know what I'm doing and have a voice and have
used it unlike I'm sure thousands want to but don't speak.
Anyhow I need help, if it is possible to do this and I hope to be in
further contact soon!
Thank you!
Jeffrey crowder
Creator/owner Beff's Browser

Hi, the short answer to this is yes (i.e., you can use code under the
Apache License, such as the OpenOffice code, in a MPL project). That
said, if you are writing your code from scratch I don't see any specific
reasons (other than personal interests and beliefs) for preferring a
license over another; honestly I don't see any reasons for using the
OpenOffice code in a web browser either.

Well, good luck with your project and have fun! Should your personal
project become a mature free and open source project with code and
community, you may consider to bring it to Apache one day: you can read
more at http://incubator.apache.org/

And if you have some time left for working on OpenOffice, we always
welcome new volunteers! See
https://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/intro-development.html for more.

Regards,
  Andrea.

Hi, if you are paying something for OpenOffice, you didn't get it from
the official site, where we only distribute it for free:

See also https://blogs.apache.org/OOo/entry/how_to_safely_download_apache

So you will need to cancel your account/subscription with whomever sold

Hi, Michael:

We are so happy on seeing new coming developers in the AOO community, Thank
you!

To be a developer volunteer, you shall prepare an AOO build environment in
your local and get some AOO technical knowledge and specifications. Such
stuff could be commonly found in the AOO WIKI pages. For example, the build
environment establishment document for different platforms are in here:

http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/Building_Guide

And the structural introduction documents for applications could be
retrieved as following:

For AOO Text Document (named as 'SW' internally):
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Writer
For AOO Impress (named as 'SD' internally):
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Impress
For AOO Calc (named as 'SC' internally):
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Calc

And of cause, refer to the new coming developer guide at first:
http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/intro-development.html , but as it
is still a draft version, tell the community directly, if there anything
should be clarified, updated or even rewrote.

If you want to engage into the extension development via UNO, you can refer
to the tutorials Alexandro introduced above.

Thank you again, and having fun in this opening world.

learning new things and I love helping and Open Office seems like I can do
 both.
I have to admit, I'm really not sure how you guys work but if someone is
happy/willing to help me through maybe even the first step and show me how
I can contribute, I'd really appreciate that. =)
Looking forward to working with you all!Doug

Hi Doug;

Welcome to Apache OpenOffice. The best first step would be to go to our

and follow the steps outlined there. The first 2 levels will give you a
better understanding around how the project works. Then dive into level

Also you will want to subscribe to this list by sending a blank email to
users-subscr...@openoffice.apache.org?subject=subscribe%20users
This is not only where development discussion takes place, but also
where decisions are made.

Again Welcome and I look forward to seeing your contributions to AOO

Re: Hi

2013-01-24 Thread Pedro Giffuni

Hello Michael;

There are many interesting things to do with Java: we could use a general update
to the code to use generics (I think Eclipse has tools for that) and we have
stuff like
Lucene that I am pretty sure needs a review to see where we can use the new
features. hsqldb could also use some tender care: we even have code for
review that no one has looked at.

You could make a walkthrough SVN to see how the code is distributed and
have a try to build it in your platform. I am not going to lie: the code is big
and some parts are scary (hey it's C++ !) , but with patience you get to
understand enough to make a huge difference.

Pedro.
