Bob, have you looked in the Save folder of your DX4WIN program directory (where DX4WIN.exe is found) to see if DX4WIN.tcp is there, together with your .dxl log files? When you move to Windows 7, you will need to reinstall DX4WIN anyway. Be sure you install it somewhere other than Program Files or Program Files (X86), because its data files are all stored in the program directory. 73, Pete N4ZR Check out the Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com. Re: [Dx4win] SO2R Question
Tod, you're right - I misspoke. The PIEXX unit takes OTRSP serial port commands via a USB vritual port and converts them to the appropriate LPT commands, rather than actually functioning as a USB to LPT converter. You might want to talk to W4NZ about this - he beta tested the PIEXX unit with a DXD, and knows how to make the DXD do lots of tricks. 73, Pete N4ZR Check out the Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com. Re: [Dx4win] SO2R Question
Randy's right about the USB-to-LPT converters. Fortunately, real LPT portcards are still available for the PCI-E slot in newer PCs, and are dirt cheap. While you're at it, you could get one with an LPT and 2 COM ports, simplify your cabling, and avoid the cost of the USB-to-serial converters you'd otherwise need. Hopefully, the next generation of radios will include a $2 USB transceiver chip. 73, Pete N4ZR Check out the Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com. I like the toggle feature that allows me to shift back and forth between the two radios. I am thinking about purchasing the DXDoubler SO2R product from Top Ten Devices as well as their new band decoder. I would like to use one band decoder with both rigs since I have one feed line running out to a remote antenna switch. Here are my questions: 1. If I select Top Ten as the band decoder within the Control tab under preferences and use LPT1 to connect the pc to the band decoder, will DX4WIN send BCD data for both radios to the band decoder - depending on which one I have toggled as the active radio (using Ctrl, Shift, F12)? For example, if radio 1 is on 20M and radio 2 is on 40M will DX4WIN send the required BCD data depending on which one is toggled in DX4WIN? The documentation indicated that BCD data would be sent for radio 1 but did not appear to mention if this would also happen if a second radio was also connected like I have it now. I would hope that BCD data is sent anytime I toggle between the two radios. 2. My second question is about the DXDoubler and how it works with DX4WIN. Dave at Top Ten said that DX4WIN reverses the selected radio. I assume that what he means is that if I select Radio 1 in DX4WIN the DXDoubler device will select Radio 2. Is this a know issue with DX4WIN and could this be fixed in a future update? That is why I am checking. Here is a quote from the Top Ten Devices website: DX4WIN, like many other logging programs (eg. CT, NA, TR, WriteLog), toggles Pin 14 on the selected LPT port when the operator changes radios. The defacto standard is that Pin 14 is high when Radio 1 is selected. However, DX4WIN drives Pin 14 high when Radio 2 is selected. Although there are ways to reverse cables and the like, so that switching works properly, the LEDs on the DXD will always be reversed. The purpose of this modification is to rearrange the internal logic in the DXD, so that everything functions properly, and the LEDs truly reflect the selected radio. I will also be using the DXD with N1MM, so I would want both logging programs to handle the radios the same way. I would not want to make the suggested Mod to the DXD to make it work with DX4WIN if it would then make N1MM operate in reverse. I wonder if Paul has a reason for not following the de facto standard? I would certainly want the LEDs to indicate the correct radio when using either program. Does anyone on the reflector use either of these products with DX4WIN? Any tips or suggestions would be welcome. I have been following this thread with a mixture of nostalgia, sympathy, and annoyance. Getting the annoyance out of the way first, I've been appalled by the tone of some of the comments. Anyone who thinks Paul has gotten rich off this thing in its 20 years of existenceis deluding himself. When I wrote ham radio software, back in the 1980's, getting paid for it was something I regarded as a way of keeping score - that effort took thousands of hours, reducing my compensation to about 5 cents an hour. I was the first paying customer for DX4WIN, version 0.94, and am still up to date. I recognize that it is increasingly in need of updating, and there are somethings it won't do that I now need, but it is still a clean and simple to use program. I have tried three times to migrate to DXlab, thinking it would give me more of what I need, and each time I have given up, defeated by its complexity. I am currently working to get comfortablewith Logger32, which does most of the things on my wish-list. You can certainly do this at an ARC6 or VE7CC cluster node, Barry. I'm a little defensive about calling his software an aggregator though, lest it be confused with the RBN's Aggregator. Re: [Dx4win] LoTW problem v 1.14.1
I successfully uploaded a 2099-QSO file to LOTW yesterday using 1.14.1, so I know it works. After you answered yes to theIs that correct? prompt, you should have seen a progress message reporting the QSO-by-QSO signing and uploading of the ADIF file. The big difference from previous versions of TQSL is that signing and uploading can be combined into one background operation, so it appears that something in your computer setup is preventing the signing step from happening. You do not need to send an e-mail to upload the signed file any more, though you still can if you wish. 73, Pete N4ZR Check out the Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com. I very much doubt there will be a problem. Rick, N2AMG is a very good programmer, who is responsible for the digital side of N1MM Logger. He works in Visual Basic, which requires a run-time component. Such components typically are carefully designed to be backward compatible, so that installing a later version will proceed without a hitch. Re: [Dx4win] PCIe LPT port problem
I think their tech guy may have been blowing smoke, Paul(s) - I have a StarTech PEX1P PCIe Parallel Adapter Card - 1 Port, SPP, EPP, ECP (S262-8032) that I just got from Tigerdirect for a new Win7 PC. While I haven't tried to use it with the antenna switching control side of DX4WIN, it works fine doing the same job for N1MM Logger, which also needs to know the port address. If your new machine is a 64-bit Win 7 machine, as even nearly the cheapest Dells may be now, then you may need a different port driver. In any case, it should be installed in the same folder as your DX4WIN executable, so that definitely is one place to look for a solution. Otherwise, I need to defer to Paul on the driver issue and how it is integrated with DX4WIN. 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 and arcluster.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 On 5/16/2012 9:02 AM, Paul van der Eijk wrote: Forwarding message for VE7BZ --Paul, KK4HD The day finally came when the old XP machine that has powered DX4WIN for so many years died -- and it was replaced with a Win7 box. I thought I could simply install a PCI (Express) LPT port card and get going once again, but such is not the case due to the manner in which Win7 or the card -- I'm not sure exactly which handles the port addressing. The card in question is a StarTech model called PEX1P and according to their tech support person it's not mappable -- so they could not tell me the real port address. When I look at the card in Device Manager the Resource tab tells me the I/O Range is D010 - D017 and D000 - D003. Again according to StarTech, the only card they can give a real address for is a mappable model such as their PCIPM card -- but it's not available in PCI (Express) -- only straight PCI. [Dx4win] Small bug in Winkey settings dialog
Unless I'm doing something wrong, there seems to be a bug in the Winkey settings dialog. If you change parameters and OK out of the dialog, the program gives an error message indicating that it could not open the Winkey serial port. I infer from this that it is trying to send the changed settings to the Winkeyer, but the main program already has control of the port (when the Winkey keyboard window is open, at least). Since the only way the Winkey parameters can be accessed (that I have discovered) is via right click in the Keyboard window, this creates a bit of a conundrum. Fortunately, the parameters are saved, so the next time the program is started, they are loaded properly. -- 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 and arcluster.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

I just did it a couple of weeks ago, and here is how I did it: 1. Go to Reports, Awards, and uncheck Lotw under the Confirmation box in the upper left. This ensures that you will only be submitting confirmations which have been confirmed via a card. 2. Click on Reports, Award flags and then select DXCC Mixed in the upper box and Clear Submitted in the Action box and then click on the Change button. Next select DXCC band in the upper box, Clear Submitted and Change. Finally, select DXCC mode in the upper box, Clear Submitted and Change. This clears out all QSOs that you might have already marked for Submission. This step is a precaution to ensure that you did not run Submission before with the LOTW button selected as outlined in Step 1. 3. Click on Reports and under Report / Action, select Submission. This will mark all cards eligible for DXCC credit for Submission and create a report that you can view. You should right click and print the report. It would be great if Paul would allow the user to right click on this report and create an ADIF file for submission to the ARRL. Unfortunately, you cannot create the ADIF file at this point. So save the report that you just printed out and move on to Step 4. 4. Go back to the main QSO entry screen and press F5 several times until the Award boxes appear at the bottom of the window. Then hit F8 and click on the Mixed box under DXCC and select S (for submission). Then click on File in the upper left on DX4WIN and select Import/Export. Select ADIF and then File again in the smaller window and Export. It should prompt you with a warning that you are running a Filter, say yes that you want to export using the filter. Name the file something like yourcall mixed. You have just created an ADIF file for all QSOs eligible for DXCC Mixed credit. You have to repeat this process two more times -- after doing a F8 fileter for DXCC Band and then a filter for DXCC Mode. You should end up with three ADIF files named yourcall mixed, yourcall band and yourcall mode. Remember where you saved these ADIF files. 5. Finally, go to the ARRL website and log into the online DXCC submission page. I can't remember the exact navigation within the submission pages, but in essence you are simply going to import the three ADIF files one at a time. The DXCC online form allows you to import multiple ADIF files into the form. Very easy. When you get done, you should click on the View Submission button and compare all the listed QSOs in this report to the DX4WIN Submission report that you printed out in Step 3. When I did this, my online report matched the DXCC Submission report exactly. I then merely had to sort my cards to appear in the order as presented in the online submission form and then complete the submission. I took all of my cards to my local DXCC card checker. This process is a bit complicated and requires some advanced knowledge of DX4WIN. Paul could make this whole process a snap by allowing users to create an ADIF file directly from the Submission report once it is generated. I hope this helps. Good luck. I tried QSLsMark QSL Band/Mode, but it marked all QSOs, including W stations. Is there a way to do what I used to be able to do in one step? Alternatively, is there a way to use filtering to select W/K stations out of the group of stations marked Label = Y, so that I can clear their label flags? -- 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Borrowing an idea from contest software
What would be downside to clearing the pending logbook window automatically any time a connecting radio is tuned more than a certain distance from the frequency associated with the spot that last populated the window? -- 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Band decoder flexibility
Is there any prospect that in future the table of band decoder outputs might be made user-cpnfigurable? I am using a home-brew driver unit to take the LPT port BCD signals and source enough power to run an RCS-10 antenna switch. The trouble is that this system needs to have the LPT port output the same BCD code for 20, 15, and 10 so that I can run my tribander on one switch position - there is no option of using a wired OR connection as there is with a hardware band decoder. N1MM Logger's Antenna tab in the Configurer is a good example of how this might be done. -- 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] Beyond Sync - has anyone tried it?
I use another freeware backup program, Syncback by One Bight Spark Software - it very nicely backs up selected directories and files from my computer and my wife's, over our network to my USB drive, on a nightly schedule. Takes about 5 seconds a night unless we have change a *lot* of files. 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 On 8/22/2010 1:33 PM, Jim Reisert AD1C wrote: Hi Folks, Has anyone used Beyond Sync to synchronize/backup their DX4WIN data in real-time? http://www.beyondsync.com/ I just installed it an it seems to be a promising replacement for Iomega Automatic Backup (I'm still using 1.0.2 on my WinXP ham computer). Note that this is NOT a replacement for a daily full/incremental local or off-line backup. 73 - Jim AD1C __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Custom band decoder output
I have a simple interface between my computer and my Ameritron RCS-10 antenna switch, which applies the BCD output from the LPT port through a driver IC directly to the BCD lines going out to the remote relay box. Simple and cheap, compared to a band decoder, but what it means is that I must be able to configure the band output of the logging programs I use to send the same BCD code for 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10, so that the antenna switch will select my tribander when any of those bands is active. N1MM Logger has a very configurable band data output scheme, which supports this requirement plus additional antenna choices for 40 and 80 with their own unique BCD codes. DXLab has a totally configurable scheme, but it's a little daunting, compared to N1MM's simple, English-language configuration dialog. I wonder if there is any prospect that DX4WIN might add such a feature (like N1MM's, that is) in an upcoming release. -- 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] QSLing first DX QSO on a given band/mode
I was the one who originally jawboned Paul into incorporating this function into DX4WIN, to enable me to preemptively QSL all DX contest contacts the first time I worked the station on a given band/mode combination. Up through version 7, it was found under Labels Mark QSOs for QSL by setting the Award dropdown to DX all band/mode It worked great! Unfortunately, this function seems to have disappeared in Version 8. Can anyone correct my impression and tell me how it is done now? -- 73, Pete N4ZR New Articles Daily - the Contesting Compendium at http://wiki.contesting.com The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
