[Elecraft] FS: K2

2007-12-21 Thread KU4YP
after much internal debate,

i am selling my K2. high 5000 serial #. I'll read the exact one when i get
home. comes with unassembled 160 meter and noise blanker option. has finger
dimple. no other options installed. i have transmitted into a dummy load with
the rig and used the receiver. my meter shows low output on the final. i have a
spare set of finals from elecraft. also, bought the pre wound torrids for the
radio, however not the 160 option. it's a neat rig, just not for me.

i bought this one after the price increase. total of all i bought from
elecraft was $713.00. make me a REASONABLE offer. no trades.

[Elecraft] K2 #5723 is alive but got a few problems

2007-10-24 Thread KU4YP
Hello all

Well, k2 5723 is alive, but I have a few snags. First, No smoke, and
about 10 watts +\- on all bands except 40m. no output on 40. Display says "
high current " and shows no rf output on meter on 40 m. but I was stupid and
handled a plug for the cw key over the rig without the cover. Blew the fuse
on the power line when the plug dropped onto the board and I think took out
one of the PA transistors, the one closest to the back of the rig. Replaced
the fuse, On all other bands, I can get 5 to 6 watts MAX out on all bands
except 40m. still no rf output. Also, all bands now give the hi current
message on the display.

I am learning as I go here so could someone please explain how I can
confirm if one of the Pa transistors is bad? Looking for suggestions and
procedure.

Tnx and 73 mike ku4yp

[Elecraft] Why a K3?

2007-10-23 Thread KU4YP

Hello all,

I have recently finished my K2 and was wanting to hear from the K3 three
owners, prospective and actual, of how they like the rig. is the K3 just a less
portable version of the K2 or is there a significant performance increase
(using the K2 I am having a hard time understanding how that could be,
however..) I am a "one rig" kinda operator and want to hear the replies
before I start selling off equipment to get K3 cash.

Please reply OFF LIST and direct to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I am not wanting to
start a heated debate nor do I want to bog down the list with "The K3 is better
and this is why.." type of posts.

Thanks, and look forward to hearing from you.

And, if you "don't agree with the question," please, pass me by.

RE: [Elecraft] Departing list ......

2007-10-05 Thread KU4YP
Agreed,

I have an ft-817 and portability is definitely it's strong suit. The
receiver is lacking to say the least. But, I can put an entire station in a
bag. People mix apples and oranges when comparing rigs.

All that says I have not finished the K2...

As a mobile rig, it would likely be neat, but has no antenna tuner,
you have to add that...
Just like those really little handhelds that do 500 KHz to UHF,
they do it allpoorly

[Elecraft] Elmer Request

2007-08-05 Thread KU4YP
hello,

is there possibly an elmer for the k2 near me? would like to sit down
and possibly get help with assembly. i am at page 60 in the manual but i
am kinda iffy on my torrid winding. i am planning on buying the
pre-wound torrids in the near future. i guess that is an art. will
gladly pay for your time. it is not the fact that the list has not
helped, i am just a hands on kinda guy, i guess.

best 73 and any help appreciated.

[Elecraft] first snag

2007-06-11 Thread KU4YP
hello all,

Well, I hit my first snag with k2 # 5723.

On page 61 of the manual in the vco alignment, I measured the
voltage of r30 first out at 2.33. that was with the tuning slug, L30 turned
all the way in. turning the slug out the voltage changed to 2.44. this is no
where near the 6 volts. My question is, the manual says if the voltage does
not change, refer to troubleshooting. I can't find anything in
troubleshooting that refers to this. With the small change, I am afraid I
will need to rewind t5.

Anyone have the same problem? Words of wisdom in winding t5/

[Elecraft] K2: first snag...

2007-06-08 Thread KU4YP

Hello all,

Well, I hit my first snag. The voltage at R30 is maintained at 2.33
volts. I checked and made sure the values at C72 and L30 are correct.

The manual makes reference to checking troubleshooting but when I
look in the troubleshooting reference, it is not readily visible to me where
the instructions are.

Anyone else had this problem? R30 should be at 6 volts. I don't know
how else to wind t5.

Any help or words of wisdom appreciated.

[Elecraft] K2 #5723

2007-05-23 Thread ku4yp

hello all,

well, i finally started the kit. i know, have had a ton of stuff
going and it has sat for a while. however, i finished the control board
tonight. i have to say elecraft is right on with the manual. i have
never tried a kit this large and was kind of intimidated. i am impressed
at how well the manual is explained.

hope to have it finished within the week. maybe :-)

[Elecraft] newbie question

2006-08-31 Thread KU4YP

Hello,

I would like to ask a question. If you were buying a k2, what would
be the basic options you could not do without when buying the kit? Like
everyone, I am on a set budget but have enough for the rig plus a little
more. Wanted to get the most bang for the buck and also get the options that
are really needed right out of the gate.

I am looking forward to your replies.

You can add the connectors for the SSB board when building the K2, which
will save you a bit of disassembly and reassembly later. The K2 manual
will tell you what to install, and when.

There are a couple parts to remove, but it is a good idea to build the
K2 without any options and get it working first, then add the options,
so don't worry about those until it's time to install the SSB board.
